Apple Studio Display - does this charge the MacBook all the time when plugged into a 2018 edition MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave 10.14.6 which I have not intention of upgrading ?

1. I prefer something that doesn't charge my MacBook Pro unnecessarily even after 100%.
2. Is there a way for the Studio Display not to charge the MacBook Pro at all and use a separate regular charger for the MacBook Pro ?

You have to use Monterey 12.3 or later with the Studio display. Else, things like the brightness and camera won’t work.

Thank you so much for this vital information - I was about to book this. I guess I'll wait till next year or so. Because right now I don't want anything broken in my Mojave.

That's all that's officially supported, but it isn't the whole story. On 11.6.7, the camera works (although centerstage does not) and I can change the brightness.

I suspect that charging happens at a really low-level of the stack and it would probably charge. I wouldn't buy a Studio Display solely to work with a Mojave machine, though.
