I usually have my MBP in running an external display with the MBP display lid closed. I leave the screen protector/keyboard protector paper that came with the MBP laying on the inside of the computer while its closed. I figure thats no problem, but is this ok? Does the MBP dissipate heat throught the keyboard while its closed/open?

Clamshell mode is supported by Apple in the MBP, so while some heat is passively radiated via the top case and keyboard, the MBP's cooling system is more than equipped to handle the heat load even with the lid closed.
so is it a-ok to leave the sceen/keyboard protector laying on the keyboard while the MBP is running in clamshell running an external monitor? I dont want some funny business to happen, thats all...
I don't know about the protector...I threw it out about three seconds after I opened my PowerBook. 
I don't remember what it was made of and how heat-resistant it would be...I'd imagine it would be okay though.

Actually the worst case scenario, would be having the screen warped by the heat. However clamshell mode is supported on the MBP so it should be fine.
hm i def do not want to come near that situation. But i mean if i did not have that cover on the keyboard and lcd while it was closed, heat dispearsed thru the keyboard would just go into the LCD display. so i mean
idk i would think its ok to leave that film over the keyboard while th MBP is running in clamshell ? anyone?
The only thing I would really worry about is the heat melting that protector, but I'd think Apple would be smart enough to know that it needs to be heat resistant. Even without running in clamshell mode, people are going to be going from heavy-load activities to a closed sleep mode (possibly with protector inserted) pretty quickly when they're on the go.
Mac000, if you find anything out, please post it. I'm tempted to contact Apple and see for myself.
i think applecare would have to cover your display if it were warped because of heat in clamshell mode. It would be rediculous if they didn't but who knows nowdays.
I know back in the powerbook days there was a company that make suede or some other fabric that would protect your display. Is that needed for the new macbooks or are the rubber feet on the LCD good enough.

I believe that the MBP sucks air in through the keyboard and exhausts it through the back vents.
