I understand that Air will only run at it's rated clock speed for brief bursts before clocking lower to 1.2ghz or lower. Does the Voodoo Envy with the same CPU do the same thing? Or is it able to continuously run at it's rated speeds?

This is what I was curious about - I would imagine that HP/Voodoo has a better engineering handle on things than Apple, and judging from the layout of the side panels it looks better ventilated.

However, at 1.5Kg's I decided on ordering the Sony Z11 in the end. Not as sexy, but considerably better appointed.

The air is good for what it's designed for, and suits those who need it for that.

Not my thing.

Doesn't the envy also use a method where it sucks in air from one direction and blow it out the other? That would significantly improve cooling

Obviously you haven't used HP's latest ****....and i do mean ****. HP took a dive in the quality department.

As for Voodoo they still make their own stuff but its overpriced as always.

I've bought a dozen HP 8000w-series notebooks a while back and use two of them. I also have a fairly large number of xw desktops. They've faired far better so far than the directly equivalent crap from Apple.

I actually sold the Air for an Envy and threw OS X on it. I'd say this is the laptop that Apple should of came out with. Compared to the Envy, the Air is a joke.

Great - you're the first person I've seen on-boards with an Envy. Perhaps you can answer a few questions for me.

I've no interest in throwing OS X on it anymore given the superiority of Vista on a current machine nowadays, but tell me more. I've still found it handy to hang on to the Air - as beautiful a POS as it may be - as a meeting icebreaker of sorts, but I often consider the Envy. The form factor is handy, and while the Sony will be a better workhorse I wonder if the expense of trading in the Air for a (custom paint) Envy might be worth it just for the lack of frustrations.

I was most concerned about the battery life, even bearing in mind the fact that it's removable. What are you getting in 'real life'?

superiority of Vista? that's highly, highly debatable, don't you think?

Since I found out later that the Envy didn't start shipping to customers until the 8th, member island was highly likely BSing.

I wonder why it is that people have to lie based on some weird bias or wannabeness. I just don't get it - If I have it, I have a definite opinion on it. I don't have it, I might have an educated opinion about it but I don't have a definite one - end of story.

Still, I'd love to hear some insights from anyone who actually has one and ideally someone who's moved from the Air. I'm still thinking about it, but that standard cell life bothers me, removable it may be. I'd really like to hear about genuine real-life runtimes.

We have people that are incredibly biased like MOSX that are trolls. There only purpose here is to bad mouth Apple products and they're only here because of the lack of moderators.
