I've never edited a video but I've watched several hours of Youtube in a row and played games on my 12.9 2018 Pro and it's barely gotten warm. Otherwise during general web surfing and Twitter and and reading for hours on the Kindle app and such it stays very cool. Temp is pretty much determined by the ambient air temp for most things from what I can tell.

Not sure about over heating but a poster claimed a heat issue is something known.
