Does the Lightning to USB-C cable support host mode?

My action camera has a USB-C connector. Mechanically, I should be able to connect it to my iPad Pro with a simple Lightning to USB-C cable, but will this support image and video ingestion? This would save me from combining a USB Camera adapter and a USB to USB-C cable.
