Hi guys, got a question-

My friend has the older Apple TV and when you sort the Television options by channel (or "network" can't remember exactly) it shows about 50 or so channels- A&E, Sony Television, Discovery, all the major networks, etc.

I just bought and installed the new Apple TV, and when i do the same I only show about 18 or so channels...no A&E, no Sony, it's missing a lot that he has on the older one.

Even when I sign in on my iTunes account, nothing changes- same limited choices.

Is this right or is something wrong?

The original Apple TV allows you to purchase TV shows as well as rent them, whereas the Apple TV 2 only allows you to rent shows

Could the difference could be that some TV stations allow purchase only so aren't showing in the new rental only list?

Original Apple TV has so much more TV Shows and videos to buy than what is available to rent on ATV2.

Only way round it with the ATV2 is to purchase it on your computer itunes store and either stream it to the ATV2 through the shared library or play it on your computer using Airplay.

I wish they would still give the option and therefore the full itunes content on the ATV2 to buy but it warns you that the content will only be available on the shared library computer and not the ATV2 (obviously with no storage)

Maybe in the future....

Ah, so the difference is the purchased content vs. the rented content. That makes sense now.
