Perhaps I am wrong, but doesn't eGPU support mean the drivers are in and working with Catalina which would mean that the Mac Pro can use the card?

Yes, Mac Pro’s and hackintoshes should be able to use Navi cards once this update rolls out. As far as drivers are concerned there’s little functional difference between cards being installed vs. plugged in as an eGPU.

The notes reference eGPU usage because that’s the only way currently supported Macs can make use of these GPUs. If the new Mac Pro were already shipping it’d read differently.

I have catalina running on my spare 5,1 and there appear to be no issues so i will migrate the main machine when we get to 15.2...

I have a RX 5700 X in a MacPro5,1 since Catalina 10.15.2 and it works fine while using it, but there are still (with Catalina 10.15.4) occational Kernel Panics when waking for sleep for me. Seems to happen for other computers too, so I hope it will get solved eventually (hopefully Catalina 10.15.5).
