Does the SD400 record movies? With sound? (plus a few other questions)

I'm getting a digital camera for christmas this year. I'm pretty much set on the SD400 at this point. I've researched it, and some sites say it has video recording, and some sites don't mention it. Does it record video? Does it record sounds too? How man fps does it get?

I'm also curious if this newegg.com is a good store to buy from. They have the lowest price I've seen ($255 + free shipping). Anyone think I'll be able to find a lower price by christmas time?

Thanks. I hadn't checked the canon website, but all other sites don't say anything about 60 fps (isn't that rediculously fast?).

Ok, seriously, just go by the SD400. There's no difference in picture quality or movie quality at all, just a bigger screen--and do you really need a bigger screen anyway?--two inches is good size. The SD400 is the best buy. Other than that, the movie mode looks great--you can record at 640x480 at 30fps or 15fps...looks as good as a full size camcorder...or 320x240 at 60fps or 30fps...you should just look it up on google though--and yes it does sound of course. There's a ton of reviews on it.

Solid Camera

I work at Best Buy in the camera department and just purchased this camera yesterday. It has absolutely been everything I wanted in a digital camera plus more. My parents were worried about it being too small but it really feels natural in your hands.
On a related note... my switch to Apple has been even sweeter with this camera. I plugged the camera in (which you're not supposed to do without installing the software... ) Well iPhoto popped up automatically and transeferred over all the pictures.. Perfect. Going over to hte family computer and plugged in the computer... nothing but an error. Then installed the software... nothing yet again. It's gonna take a while to figure this out.

I'm also eyeing the SD400 for Xmas. But I've heard a lot of complaints with cracked or broken LCD screens, and that Canon will charge to fix it, even if it's under warranty. Check CNet for these reviews.

Get it!

I've had an sd400 since summer (found it on dell.com with coupon codes for ~300 (which was a really good deal at that time)). I love it. The movies actually come out looking very nice (yes they have sound). Movies in low light might look a bit grainy...but they're quite nice looking given the right amount of light.

I can't say I've heard anything about cracked screens, but they could be true. Then again if you buy it and it has one , return it right away, most stores cover you for manufacturers defects.

A bit of advice. If you do get one, make sure you get a large and fast SD card. Basically I had an old sd card (128mb) which was fine for taking pictures, but it would run out of steam taking videos after about 20 seconds. I bought a 512 mb card from newegg (it was an a-data card...which I had never heard of , but they do have a lifetime warranty) and it works like a charm.

The extra screen space might be nice (on the '450) but I'm not sure if it's worth the price increase. Also, I personally would stay away from the sd550/500 mostly because it's a pretty big jump in size, unless you're wanting the bigger prints that 7.xx megapixels would allow.

Also got the sd400 this summer on Dell.com with some coupons for about 300 (problem same deal you are reffering too). It is awesome. Great films great pictures great camera.
