The iMac and Mac mini have been updated together on several recent occasions, so going by that, I'd say it's quite probable.

Then again I think the Atom rumor is referring to a new Apple tv instead of a new Mac mini.

stop waiting get what you want, you will always be waiting..... for new and greatest updates.

True if it's worth. However the current iMacs are outdated for a long time and a lot less money is needed to buy the same specs now.

i also hope there will be a new iMac releasing in March... I'm not too sure how does your country promote for apple product.

But in Singapore, the shops currently having sales to promote the apple products like iMac & macbook series with some freebies or upgrade ram to the highest capacity. Normally where massive promotions come in, there should have some new products coming out soon...

Just get what you want now, you'll not be disappointed, you'll always be waiting, dont think the new imacs will be out till summer, appletv and mac mini are due for update in march, macpro august/sept I reckon.
If you want something just get it!!! lifes too short!

If you don't need an iMac now, wait until they update them.

Personally I would like to update to a new computer, but I'm not in urgent needs of one, so I lean back and wait for an update.

I bought my imac a couple of weeks a go and am chuffed with it, if i was still waiting i think i would have gone nuts by now! However, i can't say I won't feel a little disappointed when the new ones eventually do come out, but this one more than meets my needs atm..

If the current iMac will handle what you need to use it for, why wait?

I bought mine (24" 2.8) in December and love it (mostly for photo processing). It'll barely register in my mind whenever they release the new iMacs. I'm content in the fact that no matter what they release, I'll purchase something better than that 3 or 4 years from now when I need to upgrade.

My first post!! :)

I'd like some more thoughts on this though. I've been browsing for the past 2 hours to try to put together some tidbits of info from across the web as to whether the rumors of the 28" iMac is really true?

I myself have been saving up since December to invest (and at the current price it is an investment) in an iMac. Obviously if I could get a 28" one with a faster processor for about the same money, I would hold off.

What worries me is that the current iMacs in their aluminum shells are dating back to 2007 and were only last refreshed in early 2008. While Apple has made great strides to duplicate the aluminum/glass/black border to all the other macs in the lines, I therefore don't foresee a chassis change (except perhaps a new Unibody construction, although I fail to see the merits of this in a non-portable option) but the processor and graphics hardware are now fast becoming outdated and PCs are now beyond this.

Tell me if I'm wrong in my analysis here:

No new iMacs or Mac Minis until JULY??? The reason I think this is that Apple may choose to wait to launch the Snow Leopard OS in July on their flagship hardware the iMac.

So, back to my original perusal... should I wait? I wonder will the differences in the new iMac be worth it? (Despite my greed for the 28" screen). Has anyone seen more info on this and can anyone shed any more light or theories on this?

Thanks

diarmy :)

I really wouldn't hold your breath for a 28" screen - my gut feeling is that it isn't going to happen OR if it is it's a very long way off (Cue Apple announcing iMac 28" matte screen option within days););)

Please dont say July... Im realy crazy when I saw any dates... Because I so angry to Apple... I sold my iMac 20" 2.0 Ghz Aliminium 2 weeks ago just for maybe Apple will be release new upgraded iMacs on San Francisco but they didnt... Now I dont have any Macs computer and I hate Apple :( Im using now my old friends Acer Aspire.... :(:(:(

It's not happening. It's an idiotic idea. 28" screens are the same resolution as 24" screens.

That is the only idiotic idea here. Screen resolution is NOT fixed or related to screen size.

A bigger screen is a bigger screen, simple as that. 10 years ago the idea of an iMac with a 24" screen would have been called idiotic and useless. I honestly look forward to the day we see a 32" iMac.

It would be wonderful if Apple went to 24" and 28" screen choices. That would leave only the MacBook incapable of displaying 1080p content.

Waiting is not bad thing if you know that a new product is very likely in the near future. For example, a press event is being held by Apple regarding the Mac,etc.

That's what I did back in August '07 as I knew that the new style iMac was on the way so resisted the temptation to buy a white bodied one, even though I needed it at the time as my Dell PC went tits up. I recall being in the Apple store in Tokyo, watching the sales people flogging the 'old' style iMac in full knowledge of the fact that they had the new, possibly cheaper and higher specced units coming in later that day, as they were just waiting for His Jobsness to deliver the good news back in the US.

2 ideas

first the current imac is a great machine if u want imac now get it now seriously

second if the new imac uses the new intel quadcore thats great....but.....the quads use more power and more heat and current imac design is very thin so even if i didnt buy my 3.06 c2d imac just before i wouldnt buy a rev a quad imac i dont think.....

No, no and no. New ones which were just released uses just 65W and doesn't produce so much heat becouse they were made for all-in-one computers like iMac. And secondly there have been rumors about new cooling system for iMac.

yes new quads are 65w but im sure i read that they ran hotter than imac c2d.....but i cant find a link now so maybe u are right

new cooling system tho of course great but again new designs means rev a means some buyer risk

i wish apple always got first try right but not always....

UPDATE: This article does seem to say higher heat dissipation and possible new cooling design, for a quad imac.
