If I upgrade to iOS 14 (from 13), will the apps and folders on my home screen as well as all the other screen pages stay the same, or will it mess up my system of carefully organized app icons, and add widgets or move things around?

Also, does iOS 14 remove any features from iOS 13?

Your home screen(s) will look exactly the same. It will add a screen all the way to the right with the app library. any thing else you have to do on your own (add widgets hide apps, screens etc). The today view (screen to the left- whatever its called) will look a little different with some updated widgets and old at bottom)

Hmm, that's two completely different experiences. If more people could chime in that would be great, in order to find out under which circumstances apps will be rearranged or not. I have 10 pages of organized apps that I want to keep that way.

It doesn't seem like there's any particular circumstances as much as there can be occasional update/installation glitches that some devices and people will experience with pretty much any update. The normal behavior is that what you have doesn't get changed.

My first Home Screen page was unaffected. My 2 other home screens were rearranged.

No issues with my home screen (2 "pages" worth, 2nd page primarily folders). I did find that when I tried to put a widget (4-app square) into home screen just to try it out, and then take it away, it messed with the order slightly after I took it away, but that's it.

It added the translation app to one of my screens so everything after that got moved over - moved it and put things back. I like where I have things so - actually I keep apps that I don't use so that screens look the same

I think that the differences are due to the Translation app being added to the home screen. Those of us that have a at least one unocupied app slot on our home screens only saw the minor shift where the translation app was added. Those people with full home screens may have seen a domino effect as the Translation app shifted everything after.

I personally have available space on my home screen and every other screen and therefore had only a single app shift on that screen. I simply long-pressed to go to wiggle mode, tapped on Translation app, selected "Remove App", and then "Move to App Library". That got my home screen right back to where it was before the undate.

I am trying to use but doesn't seem to be any advantage for me, yet. Maybe if, as someone said, it revises the app folder to put most used single in the area vs. buried in the folder it will become more useful for me. Also, because of not most used visible I am still having trouble figuring out which folder Apple has put apps. Having to do the search is nice to have but not all the time

I agree. The app library is nearly useless to me but I don't mind it being there. As an organized and security conscious person I have a total of 3 screens of apps that are exactly where I expect them. What would be a great "feature" to add to the app library would be a "not recently used" category that would occasionally suggest uninstalling all of the completely usess crap apps that the majority of users have on their phones. About the only useful thing I see in the app library is swipping down from the top allows for a searchable list view of apps. That is nice because apps no longer show up in Siri search results for those of us that have the "suggestions" features disabled.

Ultimately, in the context of this thread, the main point is that the addition of the App Library doesn't change someone's existing organization and use of apps, folders, and home pages.

It changes the way most people organize their Apps to allow for widgets
It’s not for everybody as more widgets come out people will feel more comfortable And adapt to it I think
But it is a big change

The existence of widgets doesn't change the existing organization of apps, folders, and home screens that someone has. Adding new widgets to home screens can certainly have an effect on all of that, but that happens when and if someone decides to add widgets to home screens, not when someone simply updates to iOS 14.

Thank you all for the replies. I installed iOS 14 myself today, and it did not mess up my existing organization of apps, folders and home screens. The only thing that happened was the addition of the new translate app at the top of page 2, even though I had one empty spot left on page one.

First home page is treated a little differently on that respect usually. Even if you download/install an app when you have multiple home pages it will place it on the first home page that has space for the app after the first/main home page (even if that one has room).
