Hi everybody!

I have a MacBook Pro 2.1 connected with the taurus fw 800 from macpower. my question is, has windows vista full support of firewire 800?

i'm using the taurus with a single drive from western digital, my speeds are read/write 40mb/s. is it only faster in raid mode with two harddisks?

i hope you can help me

thanks

I think it does.

But note that if you want to use that drive with both OS X and Windows, you have to format it as FAT32 (which has a restriction of maximum 4 GB per file).

Mac cant write to NTFS disks, while Windows cart write/read HFS+ disks.

Yes thank's, i know that. I use the external FW 800 drive for installing programs or games on it. It seems like it works perfect, the external harddisk is now a little bit faster as the internal one. I'm happy!

Are 40mb/s for read/write okay?

I think the HDD would be the limit here. It'll be much faster with two disks in RAID.

But can the 3,5" Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA II really be the brake? Normally you have transfer rates with this drive about 60-70mb/s (as internal).

Yes it would be much faster in RAID. Maybe FW 800 is only faster in Raid as FW 400 and the differences between FW 400 and FW 800 in Singledrive using are not so wide.

Interesting news:

Under OS X my FW 800 drive has transferrates about 60mb/s and in windows vista only 40mb/s.....
