I'm about to purchase a 11" and I'm a little concerned after playing with them in the Apple Store. The screens seem to be unusually floppy for a MB.. When I picked it up off of the table the screen flopped back completely. Is that the norm for your 11" Air?

My friend mentioned this as well from the store he was in, but the 2 I played with in 2 different Apple stores were fine.

The floppy screen issue you're talking about is due to the hinge being loose. Some people have reported it being a problem, others have not.

The one I played with at a bestbuy seemed fine. It is less resistance than the mbp's, but it didn't move from whatever angle I set it at unless I moved the air very fast. (I was concerned with this as well from the online reports.)

I checked out the 11 inch MBA at some length at my local Apple Store last Saturday. I confess that I had not yet read the complaints about some of them having lose hinges so I didn't focus on that. I will say though, that it was easy to manipulate, even when I held it in one hand and I noticed the angle of the screen changing only when I changed it intentionally.

I just lifted my 11.6" MBA from my desk, no movement in the hinge. However, if I jerk it back or forth it falls a little depending on each way. However, I don't plan on doing this so for what its worth, it doesn't seem to be happening when I just lift my MBA.

It definitely isn't as strong as my Alu uMB. I might go in store to test out the others compared to mine, to see if it looser than it should be.

I was trying to find this post so I wouldnt repeat the same question!!

But I noticed that mine ended up doing this today. Not every time I would pick it up but once in a while I would and it would jerk all the way back? Is that something maybe I could take the the Apple Store and have them tighten it up or what do they do for this? I am not willing to have my MBA keep doing this and it end up getting worse on me?

I was taking notes in class today and had my 13" MBA sitting on my lap thighs. I am 6'3" so I need the some arm space. Anyways I did notice the lid screen on mine would creep back if I move my legs.

I am just going to call the Apple Store tomorrow and see what they tell me. I do not want it replaced but hopefully it is something they can just tighten there. I really do not see where they would tighten it though. But it would be nice if it wouldnt do that because it might get worse if I do not get it fixed now.

I don't notice any problem with it

I didnt notice it either earlier today and then it happened to me and remembered this post. I hope they are able to fix it. It isnt all the time just every so often though but I do not want it to get worse.

I played with a 11 inch at the Apple store today and I did notice this with the floor model. Hope mine is all good when it gets here.

I just exchanged my MBA, and I think my screen is floppier than my last one. Not sure if I should take it back :S
When I leave the computer back, it just completely flops back. Should I take it in? I haven't even turned it on yet.

I would if it was worse than before.

Yeah, I exchanged 2MBA though (not for hinge reasons, the specs). Nots ure if I should go back right away. Will have a look at the models in the store and compare it to mine for sure though :/ really upsets me.

Edit: Uploading a video so you guys can help me decide what to do. If I am just complaining or something worth taking back to the Apple Store for.
Edit 2: Here is the video for what its worth... In both instances the screen just flops back. If I move it back and forth it closes/drops back. The video isn't the greatest but wanted a quick demo.

Should I take it back tomorrow? What has been your experience? Can you test this for me. Thanks a lot.

Kind of surprised no one made a remark about a floppy drive....

Also kind of surprised that this sort of issue is showing up ... after the hinge thing was one of the biggest complaints about the previous Air, one would have thought that would have been top priority to rectify :(.

Definitely. Going to take mine into the Apple Store tomorrow and take my brother alone so I don't feel like I'm the crazy one. Need to compare and show it to someone else and see if they agree. I hope they swap it on the spot.

My screen is very tight.
I was a bit concerned after reading this post and I was very quick to check after opening the shipping box.

No slop, very tight, does not move when I tilt it in an direction - sideways, upside down, on any of its edges.

Update: Went to the Apple Store and showed them my issue, and they were ready to swap it out. As I was doing that she obviously saw that I had returned a MBA before (the 1.6GHz not even opened) and then was giving me some trouble. Another person from the "Genius" bar had a look and said it was normal, I insisted it wasn't and told my brother to go have a look at the models on the floor.
Anyway he didn't seem happy but gave me a return because they didn't have any base models in stock at the moment.
As we were leaving I told him to come have a look at the floor models and he said "ok yeah maybe it's true, yours was floppier, but my friend Ian's has the same problem, etc"... Either way I am happy I got my money back because that was kind of unacceptable; I told him I had a model before and it didn't do that.
Going to wait and get a new one when they have them or go to the other apple store tomorrow.

Wait, what?

What?! Apple put a floppy drive in the new MBA instead of an SSD drive? Oh my word! Shame on you Apple!

Nope

By the way I understand your concern. I didn't want a floppy screen, either. When I got mine it was the first thing I checked for, in addition to dead pixels. No dead pixels, no heat issues, no whine, no floppy screen.

I really love this little computer. It's an instant classic!

Glad yours is perfect. I got an ultimate 11" to replace mine and the hinges seem tighter on this one. Doesn't tilt back all the way when I hold it at 90 degrees. Just have to accept its not going to be as tough as a MBP due to its size. I am really enjoying mine too!
