Does your MBP sleep as well as your Pbook?

It seems that my Powerbook was more reliable than my MBP. I would not trade back for it, I like this one, but it doesn't sleep well. Especially since 10.4.8. Sometimes I close it and the screen turns off, but it doesn't sleep, and a few hours later I come back and the battery is dead and it's hot. I don't recall ever having these problems on my PPC. I'm curious what it's like for others.

Do you have any devices connected via cable or Bluetooth that might be waking it up? What apps are running when you put it to sleep?

whaaaaaaat, you expect me to write those long names out everytime?

I do have many apps on here, but the reason I don't think that is the issue is that I still notice it to not be as reliable after I just had it wiped clean. Apple just replaced my logic board and hard drive, so I had no third party applications on here for a while and it still did not have the sleep reliability of my G4.

BOTH my PowerBook G4 and MacBook Pro have done this SEVERAL TIMES.

I wish there was a way to stop it. The problem isn't something waking it up...

the problem is... the computer never goes to sleep! When you think it's finally sleeping, you put it in your bag. By the time you take it out... you have suddenly touched something hot enough to fry an egg on!

12" PB with Jaguar... never did it. It only started with Tiger. (I skipped Panther...)

Marlon_JBT, have you tried resetting the PMU on either the PowerBook or the MacBook Pro?

Yes, I've reset the PMU. I guess what I'm talking about it is not a symptom where the MBP is like this EVERY time. Perhaps 1 in 4 sleeps does not go correctly. It's totally random. It is simply a feeling of unreliability. The only hardware connected is a Logitech Bluetooth mouse. I have CoreDuoTemp running, mail, and iTunes. Another thing I have noticed is that after closing the screen, it takes about 2-3 seconds for the LCD backlight to go off whereas I remember my powerbook would shut that light off instantly when the lid went down. It's not a problem, but it makes me wonder...

If I put my MBP to sleep while the lid is open, it stays asleep. But if I just shut the lid, the sleep light will pulse but when I open it up a few hours later, I find the display is still on and the computer is really hot.

I do have a USB Mouse plugged in but even if I unplug it before shutting the lid, I get the same results. Anyone have any ideas as to why, or even any fixes?

Never happened in Panther either. I have no experince in Tiger tho, because I haven't bothered to upgrade since I'm gonna get a new MBPro when they get merom.

All of my PPC Macs sleep like a dead person till I wake them up by moving the mouse or touching keyboard. However, static electricity sometimes wake up my Mac, such as when I walk on the carpet with my socks on near my desk. So, I bought the anti-static mat near my desk (which pretty much stopped static electricity reaching my desk from the carpet). I carry my Mac in the sleep mode and I have not noticed it awoke from sleep until I open the lid.

I also have this problem recently with my MBP... and I have called applecare which appear to be not helpful at all..... rest PMU/repair HDD/re-install....

I will see if the repair and re-install will help, if not I will send it to service....

Mine has been doing the same thing lately. Only it won't sleep again until I restart it.

I have tried quitting all running apps with the same results. I don't have anything plugged in and BT is off.

I have noticed internet has been super slow and the wireless has a hard time connecting sometimes. Maybe it has to do with the airport driver?
