Does your phone play nice with your Mac?

I'm about ready to upgrade my Galaxy S2, and although I'd like the ultra compatibility of the 5s with my macs, I can't get past the price, non expandable memory, and tiny screen. Obviously, no other phone will integrate with a Mac like an iPhone, but some phones might come closer than others. My S2 isn't horrible, but it can be pretty inconsistent. Sometimes the Mac sees the Samsung, sometimes it sees the memory card, sometimes not... for example.

How well does your phone sync with your Mac?

I use a Nexus 4 and on the very rare occasions that I need to transfer a file from my Mac to my phone, I use AirDroid. Most things I synch from the cloud (calendar, contacts, music, photos & video).

This is one of the selling points of Android in my opinion. You never have to plug in to a computer. I know iOS is almost there, but not quite yet.

Google Play music syncs with iTunes through the cloud just fine for both streaming and offline play. As for everything else, I have no issues with calendar, email, file syncing, notes using simple note, etc. Only thing that doesn't work is imessage but everyone I know uses Line or Facebook.

I had some trouble with mail and calendar syncs.

For mail - I had all my Gmail forwarded (then deleted after forwarding) to my iCloud account - which requires some manual coding to add as an account on my Droid Razr Maxx HD. Google it for the Apple answer and you can find what you need to enter.

I continue to use my @me.com and iCloud sync for email.

For calendar, I imported my iCloud calendar to Gmail, then on the Razr, I disabled the iCloud calendar and only activated the Razr calendar. On my Mac, I enabled only the Razr calendar. They sync just fine now without duplicates.

A bit complicated, but works well. Everything else has been great.

The neat thing about google is everything can be managed without connecting your phone to the computer. Almost everything is available through cloud. Google Play music is fantastic...it syncs with itunes flawlessly. Add a song to iTunes and within seconds it will show up on your phone.

However, there is a downside to this. There's no one hit wonder syncing like the iPhone has with iTunes. If I need to transfer a file from my mac to my note 2 I just use bluetooth.

If my note could sync with iPhoto that would be amazing.

Microsoft makes their Windows Phone app, and then Nokia has their Photo Transfer app. So no problems here.

Use automator with something like Dropbox or Google drive and voila!

BlackBerry integrates with Macs better than iPhones now. To sync iPhones on Mavericks, you have to use iCloud or some non-obvious local server setup.

No such problem with BlackBerry's software. You can just sync locally with the computer.

Kudos to BlackBerry for not making their sync software only for Windows, as usual for the other vendors.
