Doesn't "Apple Macbook" sound redundant to you?

Call me snooty, but I think saying that you have a Macbook is good enough. There is no need to say it's made by Apple. There isn't a Sony Macbook or Acer Macbook, so there's no need to clarify that it's an Apple Macbook. It's a Macbook. That's all. It's made by Apple, but we don't have to be told. That just irks me, but I don't correct people when they say it though, that's just rude.

Not everyone is into technology like that and immediately associates apple with macbook. of course everyone that frequents this forum or is into technology would know, but thats just a small part of the population.

Not everyone is familiar with Apple's computer lineup. You probably don't have to say Apple Macbook on this forum, but anywhere else, I don't see a problem with it.

Most of my family is not familiar with Apple, so they have no clue what brand a Macbook is.

Hmm I do say Sony Vaio.

According to what I read, Apple thinks that is proper as far as their trademarks are concerned since macbook is the title of their product. Its a brand name and not a descriptor like laptop.

So: "Apple"=Company name "MacBook" = Product name. In a formal discussion it is appropratite to use the company name even if their product is uniquely named. Just like with Nintendo and its Wii product, it is formally (and legally proper) to refer to the product as "Nintendo Wii". The basis probably is to insure that the product name can only be assosciated with the trademark ownership and nobody else. It doesn't matter how ubitious the product is, product association like this prevents genericiation (like the word Kleenex - a brand name) and loss of the trademark itself.
