Doesn't it kinda look like OSX/iPhone?

I was reading crave and stumbled upon Intel talking about UMPC. There they had 3 screen shots of UMPC. One of the screen shots looked a lot like OS X/iPhone. What do you all think? I know it's not, but I still thought it was pretty interesting.

EDIT: The Picture even seems to have a Safari like icon.
EDIT 2: Also note I am not claiming it is actually OS X UMPC or iPhone or whatever just thought you all would think it's pretty crazy...

EDIT 3: I think that particular screen shot is RedFlag MIDINUX OS

Very interesting. I think the UMPC stuff Intel has released (a100 processor etc) could be the basis of a small flash-based tablet mac. Or even a true video ipod (with HD) or something along those lines.
 
Ok good I thought perhaps my wishes were just getting in the way...

What I find interesting is the first icon... doesn't that look very Safari like?

And the black one with the for corners that looks like spaces no?

I don't think the 4 corners one looks like spaces. I assume this is a mockup by intel showing what they "could do", i.e. saying "we can make something as good as an iphone".

of course they can't use those icons unless they want to be sued, but I doubt apple is part of this (seeing as it is built on a linux distro)

No I know and agree with you (well I mean except I still think it looks kinda like spaces just modified). Just hought it was crazy to stumble on.

Good catch Poppe. I definitely think it looks like OSX. Kind of interesting to see what Intel is up to. A small flash-based tablet mac would be awesome. Ahh, Friday morning day dreaming...gotta love it.
 
It is linux based so that could be part of the reason for the similarity. And I read they were demoing Vista on this device to show its capabilities. I would get on but it must have a few requirements a 4-4.3in screen, 16-32gig flash hd, instant on, ipod or zune quality sound. and be able to hook up to another computer for file transfer easy.
 
These tiny devices running MIDinux aren't phones. They're UMPCs and MIDs. I posted screenshots and links to videos of MIDs and UMPCs several days ago in the wi-fi iPod rumor thread.

You'll soon begin hearing more about them as inexpensive MIDs running Linux start showing up in the news. During 2H07, rumors are that several manufacturers will begin offering MIDs and mini-laptops with 4x6 inch or so sized screens for about $200-500 (US), as well as inexpensive, but very tiny notebooks/laptops for 3rd-world nations, rumored to be designs based on Intel's Classmate PC (shown below.)



But, there is a Linux-based phone coming... It was announced in Nov. '06 (the iPhone was introduced in January '07.) This linux "unlocked" phone will soon be available to the general public for ~ $350 (US), as the Neo1973, running OpenMoko, manufactured by FIC.

At this point in time, it's basically a development kit for tinkers, hackers and developers. Quoting the site, the sales are "targeting open source community developers. ... the phone will be a working touchscreen phone, but little more. It depends on you and the rest of the community to polish it into a fully usable device." See: What will it do?

Oh I really like that idea. That will probably be one of the best phones when a version 2 comes out and the open source software starts becoming robust.

Oh yeah! Being largely "open" and Linux-based, it's bound to attract lots of developers from the Linux world who will come up with some interesting applications and uses. When you look at the hardware, it would seem to have great possibilities! :p

The gen2 version, with wifi, would be the one that I'd really like to play with, which may be available as early as June (according to the Neo1973 wiki, at least.)
