Apple Music Dolby Atmos - Auto vs Always On with non-Apple devices

So I am playing around with the Dolby Atmos music through some non Apple earbuds. If I go into the settings and change from Automatic to Always On and back again, there is a pretty significant change to the sound. Does anybody know what is happening when you switch from automatic to always on In this situation? Just curious. Thanks.

When i use my non-apple wired earbuds it won’t play in atmos with the auto setting. Changing it to always on forces it to play in atmos for atmos tracks.

Thanks. I can do it with wireless buds. With my Soundcore Liberty Pro 2 buds, there is a distinct change in sound when flipping from Auto to Always On. I was just wondering what happens. I guess the Auto is playing in standard stereo but I can’t tell with the Always On is doing. No big deal. Thanks for the reply.
