Don't get how Atmos is working with Apple Music... surely music was recorded in Stereo (2 channels), how are they creating these extra channels to get the surround sound effect
The music has to be recorded or remixed to support Atmos, it will be limited to several thousand tracks on launch, but hopefully now Apple Music is supporting the format we will still start seeing more and more music supporting Atmos. If Spotify starts supporting it as well then this should hopefully push the whole industry forward. I think some people are wondering if it will actually catch on, but with more and more headphones and hardware supporting Atmos I think the Atmos could catch on and become a new way to experience music that is accessible to everyone and not just those with expensive audio set ups.
I am sure the mainstream artists will start supporting it with new albums and I am sure the classic albums which still sell by the millions like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac etc will be remixed to Atmos. I know Sgt Pepper has already received an Atmos remix and producers like Steven Wilson are being commissioned by bands to remix classic albums into Atmos, like I think King Crimson's - Court of the Crimson King has been remixed to Atmos by Steven Wilson already.
