I have a copy of a few albums mixed with Dolby Atmos. Is there a way to listen to them on my iPhone or iPad with my AirPods Pro or Max? Apparently the only way I see to turn on the Atmos setting is to have an Apple Music account. But what if the songs weren't purchased through iTunes? Is everyone out of luck unless they use iTunes and have an Apple Music account?

They are flac files and I guess that’s one of my questions. Is there any particular app (like Plex) that would work best playing them? Since I don’t have an Apple Music subscription, I don’t get the Option to turn on Dolby Atmos in the music section of settings. So that’s why I’m confused. If I just dragged them into the Music app on my iPad, or iPhone, I’m assuming that it wouldn’t play Atmos mixes.

You should be able to get atmos from aTV+ (in the TV app in iOS), if you don't have a subscription, the trailers should also be atmos. just as a test to make sure it's working.

was going to suggest maybe a plex library played through infuse, but infuse doesn't seem to show music libraries. I'm going to guess plexamp also won't play it in surround.

Infuse by itself is another option, since it can directly access network shares, but it doesn't look like it plays audio only files. (the pages I found were a bit old, it may have changed)

I did see that the files app on the phone does support Flac, but not sure about atmos.

For FLAC files the very small VOX app is wonderful and should satisfy your needs.
