I wasn't expecting much but I started watching a couple of Atmos movies that I own on Saturday night from my 11 Pro Max.
Alien Covenant and Spiderman Homecoming.
The audio actually felt like it was being produced away from the phone. I'm sure the effect can only be appreciated in a quiet environment but I had no idea it was going to work as well as does.
Of course the HDR also looked amazing.
BTW: the scene I tested is near the beginning when the alien pops out of the guy's back in the lab.

how does one actually get to test this out? Where should I purchase the movie for it to have an Atmos soundtrack? None of Netflix content has Atmos right?

Cheapcharts.info lists every day iTunes price reductions on film!
The two spider man films (Home coming and the incredible animated one - Into the Spider Verse is currently on offer as 2 pack for £12.99 - both in 4K Dolby Vision with Atmos surround!

I see, thanks. There was also a lot of emphasis put on improvements to the audio of the iPhone 7 Pro when it comes to overall music playback from the Music App, how would one make sure we are getting the full desired effect of the new sound system in the iPhone 11 Pro?

There's a setting for both Dolby Atmos and the wide spatial audio in settings. iPhonedo has done an interesting comparison on YouTube regarding it. He compares it with Pixel 3 & Note and the 11 Pro wins hands down.

You need to wear headphones for this...

I could definitely see noticing a difference with headphones, but if you are just using the speakers you are probably experiencing a placebo. Sure the audio quality is better, but you cannot really have ATMOS on a phone. It's kinda like saying the iPhone has 5.1 surround sound, but better =/. Sure it supports the audio codec, but so do some stereo TVs.

I'm not talking about audio quality. I haven't decided if I notice a huge difference from my iPhone X.
I'm talking about spatial audio. I have watched numerous iTunes movies on my different phones and have never noticed surround activity like this.
I'm not even sure spatial audio works on headphones, but I could be wrong.

Under which setting menu is the setting?

How is audio quality, my XS Max sounds tinny

I can't find any settings for those. Where are they located?

It actually works better with headphones since the audio can be in different parts of the speakers. For example, top left of your left ear, bottom right of your right ear. That is assuming your headphones support that.

Headphones are actually more immersive unless you have actual surround sound.

There is a lot of atmos content on netflix, but when I go to run a series that has atmos normally on my TV/Sound system, the netflix icon under the title only shows dolby vision visual. nothing about atmos...

I've only got Netflix Atmos content to work via ATV 4K and my Atmos equipped 5.1.2 AV receiver. I suspect Netflix will need to update their iOS app to accommodate it (assuming that they're minded to).

Going to try some of my iTunes movie purchased via headphones now, see what effect if any they might have,

I'm trying my best to remember where I saw this. It was one of the YouTube reviews - there was a toggle switch for spacial sound on or off and one for Atmos on or off. If I find it, I'll report back :)

i have one on my Android tablet, but don’t see one on the iPhone.

is this the video you’re thinking of? He says the iPhone has no setting.
