Pulling the trigger on a new MBA 1.8/64SSD, with Superdrive, and ethernet adapter, iPod Touch 32GB, on Tuesday, August 19, '08, at the Emeryville (Bay Street) Apple Store. This is my 2nd MBA, but I've decided to go with the top of the line this time around.

Just wondering if there are any concerns about my purchase, in comparison with my 1st MBA 1.6/80GB?

Thanks Steve. I had the 1.6/80GB and I ended up selling it to my brother b/c I needed more HD for my projects. Now that my projects are completed, I can go with the 1.8/64SSD and enjoy the transportability again.

I have had mine for over a week now and love it, hardly notice the lack of ports. A tiny bit slow, on loading but once and going she works well.

I am going to grab one at some point in the near future. I am just in the process of ordering a new machine similar spec to yours minus the ssd drive. I have seen a 128gb ssd, that I am going to look into.

Right now the macbook air is my primary machine and I am very pleased with it. I am waiting for my case mate suite case for it so I can move it of the soft cloth I have it sat on Hardly moved in last week, for fear of scratching it.

I'm a bit concerned that the Superdrive might need the direct connection to the USB port on the MBA, thereby defeating the purpose of the multi-USB hub. I've read in other threads that this could pose a problem. I'll know for sure on Tuesday morning. I'll keep everyone posted.

Unless you plan to have the superdrive plugged in I cant see it posing to much bother. I used mine initially for a clean install and to install xp via boot camp

Are you sure that 128GB comes in a PATA interface? As most of the newer SSDs are SATA based which wont plug into the Air.

1.8" v 2.5"

I think the Air uses the 1.8" instead of the 2.5". So, most SSD drives cannot be used in the Air.

I agree, i have found 128 gig in all formats apart from the 1.8" so far, a lot of companies have announced them (samsung, mega talent..) but they don't seem to be available yet.

i've had mine since yesterday, I traded my MBP 2,16ghz core 2 duo for it, and i must say I don't miss my MBP a bit. the MBA is just perfect for my needs and speed wise, I can't say that it is slow :D

only when the MBA starts up, it's slower than the MBP, but when it's up and running then there is no stopping it ;)

oh I have the MBA 1,8ghz with the 80gb Hd.

If you're an undemanding Stevezombie, especially one who has not owned a recent Windows flagship ultraportable, there will probably not be any problems. Who knows, you might get a 'good' one - whatever that means in Appleland. Either way you will only know when you get it.

Personally I've found the exterior fit & finish the best out of the Apple notebooks so far and superior to many Windows machines, but the internals to be most infernal piece of crap I've ever encountered in an ultraportable - and also generally, bar the MBP - in terms of doing what it should be capable of in reasonable environments.

Concerns, yeah, like how you'll be able to put it down. Had one in my hands yesterday at the Apple Store in the International Mall in Tampa. I monopolized it for about 45 minutes. OMG awesome!
Enjoy, love and treasure your new baby, I know you will love it;):D:D:apple::apple:

Pulled The TRIGGER...

bought it last night, and couldn't sleep knowing it was ready to be unwrapped first thing this morning. Transferred MBP essentials and got this baby "all-dolled up" and ready for some serious duty. I want to personally thank each and everyone one of you that replied to my thread or PM'd me with additional advice! I'm one happy puppy! :p:D

Amen,

I got my MBA SSD in Feb/08, I have had a happier time with any computer previously. Bought my first one in '79.

MBA cream of the crop!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Looks nice!

Quick question: Does the MBA Superdrive have additional USB ports in the back?
