hello

I am going to be selling my iPhone 6s on monday and wondered if I should buy a Sony Xperia XA, i dont really use my phone, only for phone calls and the design is the most important feature to me and the design of the Xperia is gorgeous, should I get a Sony Xperia XA as its currently £149.99 off contract in the uk in rose gold.

I really don't understand buying a phone on the basis of its appearance alone. If I only wanted one for phone calls, I'd base the choice on sound quality and build quality/reliability (if you can ascertain that). If I made the choice on appearance, I don't think the Xperia XA is anything special. Still, it looks better than my ageing Moto G which cost slightly less.

I understand it.

We don't sell our phones. We upgrade every 2.5 to 3.5 years using a portion of our tax refund to purchase. It means we live with these phones for that amount of time, not including the amount of time those devices spend later as they move down to be just home media devices.

I want to LIKE the phone I am staring at and using during that entire time. Functionality and features are secondary to appearance for me. As long as the phone can make calls, text, email, light internet browsing and social media then I'm good.

Since looks are paramount to me I don't use cases although my wife does.

Sony sells throwaway devices. In all categories, not just phones. Am not saying dont get it, just saying be aware and dont pay a lot of money on any "premium" idea. Cheap and cheerful, why not.

If she doesn't like apps like no video call for Facebook Messenger, no Instagram, no Snapchat, no Uber, terrible browser apps, and restrictive to customizations. Trust me, I know. Used it since 2011 and use it now as a secondary. Don't be fooled by fancy transitions and smooth animations. She can wait until Nokia makes a proper Android phone in a few more months. WP is on its last breath anyway at less than 1% marketshare.

OP, depends if you know how to use Android and can live without things from iOS. Android isn't for beginners like iOS and WP is to me. I say just do it but call me biased. XA is pretty inexpensive for a Sony smartphone. Sony used to charge $300 for a Xperia M2 which was $100 more than a Moto G with the same SoC. XA looks decent for its price.

Xperia XA is a very nice looking model.

You might also consider the Nexus 5X. I have one and find it exceptional. While it's not fully loaded like my terrific Nexus 6P, the 5X has been an excellent smartphone. Pure Android 6.0.1, excellent speakers, very nice ergonomics and a beautiful display, I'm very pleased. Quite inexpensive as well.
