Lollipop is the problem for massive battery issues! There is a huge issue with google play services and google app services.they won't shut down there connection to data when not used.

I just updated my verizon gs6 and it went from great Battery life to absolute ****.I can't even get 4 hours of on screen time when the original firmware got me almost 6.

Now I have play services and google in my battery stats taking up 3 hours of data connection.

I guess I'm not the only one that noticed this because I was doing a search on what I noticed and found this.

In the end, I don't see how it helps the consumer any. Even if Google releases a fix, the responsibility is on Samsung to modify that patch, and then it still has to pass through the carriers.

That's the one thing about Apple - since they make both the hardware and software and OS, there's no passing of the buck around. Whatever the problem may be, the finger still points back at the company, and the onus is still on them to fix it.

From what I have read every lolilipop device has this issue.it's one of the main reasons OEMs delayed lollipop this long.

The z3 has plumited in battery life leaving Kit kat and so have many other flagship phones.

I'm also not sure how you want samsung or any other OEMs to modify play service frame work.it's googles direct connect to the device to push hidden patches and updates to the core of android.

I doubt it's google that's to blame. Reasons being, Nexus 7 on the latest lolipop and one Galaxy S5 with no battery problems.

Samsung re wires stock google Android OS then presents it to google for approval. Buck passing IMO.

All the more reason I want Samsung to hurry up with getting Tizen up to par for mass release. Once Samsung can get off dependancy on Google, I think we'll see what they really can do. Right now their in a fight with Apple and have one arm tied behind their back. Tizen is more efficient on power usage and also runs smother with low end hardware. A high end Tizen phone needs to happen now.

The gs4 and gs5 both got worse Battery life going to 5.0 and so didn't the g3 and z3 leaving kit kat and the nexus 7 and all nexus devices had issues.

Just do a search on lollipop battery drain.

I just read android m preview is getting 2.7 times longer stand by vs lolilipop on the nexus 5

And that's without any app using "Doze", for the record. As far as I know, not a single app uses it. Google's services are under the "ignore optimizations" section without ability to change it right now.

Thanks for the heads up as I seen threads about this almost everywhere. This is why I was afraid to update my G3 Beat and buy a Starmobile Up Max even with its 5000 mAh battery. Hard to trust a phone with 1 GB RAM and Lollipop's known battery drain.

Lollipop just isn't battery efficient enough. KitKat is probably Android at its best with efficiency seeing it was built with a Nexus 4 with only 512 MB of RAM! Lollipop is more like a refresh of Android without any refinements. Like Ice Cream Sandwich. It got better and better with the successors like Jelly Bean and KitKat. Material Design is like going back to gen 1. Android M and N will likely need to refine the new changes with new bugs and flaws started by Lollipop.

Rooting the Android and installing the DISABLE SERVICES app can prevent the apps fron waking up. KitKat is known to do it too but not as bad and no Material Design for useless animations to kill batt faster.

No idea why they, and Apple insist on yearly refreshes. By the time or even after the latest refresh the last refresh is optimized there is a new release. Then another year of bug fixes to start again...

Lollipop was a major change up.it is the first android os using art runtime and first using 64 bit registers.

Going forward will get a lot better

S6 is a high performance phone and the fastest on the market so it's unfair to expect high battery economy from it. With that said mine seems to be behaving well under heavy utilization running benchmarks and emulation getting nearly 5h screen-on-time with 1d 1h on battery. I put it on power saving overnight but that shouldn't matter. This is on the 1st charge so it should get better after a couple of complete discharge/recharge cycles and under normal use instead of benchmarks and emulation.

Emulating my favorite old hardware accelerated Apple IIgs machine at ludicrous speeds (feels like 50x or greater)

I have no complaints about the S6 battery life. I'm about 4.5 hours SOT on average with periods of 5.5 hours on lighter use days.

That's not far from my Note 4.

Wanted to test the extremes, heavy usage and idle, to see if I want to keep or wait for Note 5. Idle battery life is looking good so far with 1d 6h on battery at 82% with estimated 6d remaining. That should be even better than my old Note II at 6d idle. Expecting normal usage to be about 6h to 6.5h.

If Tizen is anything like Touchwiz, which it is on devices like the Gear S, there'll be even less of a reason to purchase a Samsung device. Even with its battery issues, stock Lollipop is far superior to any of Samsung's operating systems.

However, Android M seems to be better on the battery. Too bad the GS6 will get it next year...

To be fair android m doesn't even have a name yet and just went public beta and won't officially be out till end of 2015 early 2016 for nexus devices.

I'm at 14 hours and 50% battery life and 2.5 on screen time but google play services are taking up more power then the screen.

In my stats it's saying 3 hours connection time with less then 5 min actual app use.

I have rooted my phone and manually killed play services to try to find out what is keeping google from shutting down it's modem connection.

I never use wifi so this is big for me and happened a few days ago after I installed latest firmware from verizon.
