This may be old news, but i sure didnt know about it

I just talked to a apple rep who said that the iMacs were upgraded in december, but was unannounced. He said the ram, HD, and others were upgraded. Then i asked when to expect a new one, and he said that there will not be one soon.

Sounded kinda iffy to me, as i am sure SOMEONE who was interested in or had in imac would have noticed. But that is what he told me. Sorry if you guys have heard this, or it is wrong information.
 
First off I'm not here to refute your claim.

But.... the idea that some rep, or some Genius, or some Apple store clerk, are giving up details on the next release of an Apple product should never be considered a 'source'. We all well know that none of these people are in the loop on anything being released unless a day ahead after a shipment has already been received. And even then it is still a long shot. Let's not spread these kinds of rumors based on very flimsy sources (if you can call them sources at all).
 
Im not calling you a liar either.
But if they were unannounced then how did he find out? Surely a couple of rumors or news about this would've caught on a while ago if he was able to find out.

Honestly I hope this isn't true, I've waited a while for an update. lol
 
Yes, i understand that. but that would only mean it has been about 5 months since the last update

As far as I know nothing new came out as far as updated iMacs in December and believe me, this site would know if anything changed. People here know when Steve Jobs farts, much rather changes anything. Sad isn't it :(
I digress, I don't know when anything new is coming and i just bought an AL iMac a few months ago so I don't really care either. Happy waiting y'all :D .

They did actually bump the HD a tiny bit on some of the models. I think they may have adjusted the RAM too, but not sure. I don't believe they changed anything else.
 
The iMac is not going to see an update until at or after WWDC. There is no reason to update it prior to the move to the Montevina platform and I would not be surprised if Apple doesn't just do a complete platform shift to Montevina at once for the iMac, the Mac Mini, the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. This would coincide with the rumored new Al enclosures for the MacBook (Pro) and the rumored new form factor for the Mini (the iMac would keep the same form factor).
 
The next refresh will probably be considered a minor upgrade as the iMac moves to the montevina platform. Intel has already laid out the roadmap for their next major release, processors based on the Nehalem architecture. According to what I have read this is supposed to be a HUGE upgrade from the current generation core 2 duo's as the foundations are totally different. Intel has gone as far as stating that they will also start shipping the first true quad core mobil CPU's sometime early next year. Apple will probably first ship the macbook pro's with these new chips but it will be a matter of time before they find their way to the iMac (probably late 2009).
I still use my last generation white 24" iMac and plan to hang on to it until Apple ships Imacs with sufficient hardware upgrades to justify buying a new one. What would this mean? An iMac with a quad core CPU and ugraded graphics card (as te current generation ATI's suck). This means that I am probably stuck with my white iMac a year and a half at the least.
 
With the Intel based platform, the CPU will be updated much more often than back in the PPC days. Apple will have to keep the line more fresh than it did before.

It is probably a safe bet to assume that the insides will be updated more often than the exterior form factor.
 
Nehalem will most likely first see release in the Mac Pro (likely around Mac World 2009) since the first CPUs to be released will be aimed at servers and workstations.

I expect Nehalem on the rest of the line starting in late Q2/early Q3 2009.
