Don't purchase AirPods from Best Buy - warranty already activated.

I purchased a new paid of AirPods Max from Best Buy recently during the Black Friday sale, everything checked out. They were real, I even called Apple and got the purchase date changed from November to December so I could purchase AppleCare Plus on them.

This is where the nightmare starts, a few days later and I still can't purchase it. I called Apple again, and they finally found out that Best Buy already has AppleCare Plus on them - In their name. How is that possible?

So I call Best Buy to get them to cancel it like Apple Support said. They don't believe me at all, there is no warranty they said. So after about an hour on the phone with Best Buy support- they are going back to the store.

Buyer beware if buying an old stock item from Best Buy. The AirPods Max were brand new, with the pull tabs in tact.

When you buy Apple products from Best Buy, you can also buy AppleCare. It’s likely either they put it on by mistake or somebody bought them with AppleCare and then returned it. They don’t need to be opened to apply AppleCare to them.

Yeah, I think I'd have also returned them rather than trusting BB and Apple Care to get it sorted out. Imagine needing AC in 18 months and having the claim denied.

Hopefully whoever buys that returned open box pair will not want AC+ or if they do, will try to add it during their return window.

I’m not sure how that works. I just know I bought Apple products from Best Buy and they offer AppleCare at the register. When you add the device to your account, it automatically shows the AppleCare.

I can’t see Best Buy purchasing AppleCare for their use. Even if it was supposed to be a display model, I don’t think they would buy AppleCare. I could be wrong though.

It’s a good thing they have a reasonable return policy so you can just return it. That’s one thing I’ve always wondered if Best Buy will take a return once it’s open.

Apple confirmed that there is already AppleCare Plus activated on those airpods, and the owner was best buy.
