Had my desktop folder and documents folder wiped out & gone forever thanks to this version of MacOS.

iCloud files could not be off loaded from storage, causing the drive to constantly fill up to 100% with no way to free up space.

Come back to it iCloud has lost sync and decided it wanted to start removing random files across my machine.

A warning to anyone, please be careful.

I remember many years ago Apple had to wipe iCloud data for those that used the OS X Yosemite betas and/or iOS 8 betas. Hopefully Apple won't ever have to do that again, but I'd never use my main Apple ID for betas. Not only are you using the OS betas, you are also using server-side betas that the OS may be dependent on.

After installing Beta 2, there is a popup dialog that asks if you want to enable iCloud sync for the desktop and documents folder. In my case, I declined it because I don't like using the cloud to backup those folders (that's what external storage is for).

These are the release notes for Sonoma Beta 2, (there was something similar in Beta 1), that none (as it seems) ever reads... Didn't happen to me, (even if it did, I have a backup, as it's UNACCEPTABLE to install a beta OS without it).

iCloud

Known Issues

  • Users with iCloud Drive sync disabled are unable to access settings for some apps using iCloud. (105284675)
Workaround: Enable iCloud Drive sync, change any settings under “Apps syncing to iCloud Drive”, and disable iCloud Drive sync.
  • The System Settings application might become unresponsive after creating a new account and then signing out of iCloud. (109789130)
Workaround: The escape or return key will work to dismiss the sheet. Since the issue does not seem to occur with existing accounts, trying again later or rebooting should resolve the problem.

iCloud Drive

Known Issues

  • iCloudDrive folders owned by root or other local users might be inaccessible after upgrade to Sonoma. (109204311)
    Workaround: NA
  • Enabling desktop and documents sync might fail after upgrade to Sonoma. (109507087)
Workaround: The user can try again at a later time.

iCloud Settings

Known Issues

  • Users might not be able to view Apps Syncing to Drive in iCloud Drive Settings. (110732437)
Workaround: Go to iCloud Settings>Show All>iCloud Drive>Apps syncing to iCloud Drive.

I am having similar issue.

Folders from Desktop will upload all at once and when i try to download the required one's , it doesn't download.
Later today, all the folders were downloaded from iCloud by itself and I am out of space. This started after updating to Sonoma. Apple support is not responding to the question: "why is this happenign after the update?" They are simply ignoring. Right now, mac can't even play a song due to low space. I am kinda stuck now!

I just did the Sonoma release, and it has broken icloud for me. It's been syncing for 5 hours and no actual files are available, only folders. during this time the finder doesn't work for copying, it won't write properly to thumb drives, and apps trying to access icloud at launch are hanging.

Yeah Sonoma did something really crazy to my iCloud Drive as well. Sync never completes and fileproviderctl dump is reporting tons of errors. SMH

Apple needs to fix this issue ASAP! I am in trouble as well! Mine keeps on uploading and downloading whenever it wants!

I am glad that I found this warning. Apparently this is still an issue in the release version. For me this means no update.

I'm having the same issue with my books. Is there a way to revert back to Ventura? Also, does anyone know where the books folder is located so I can backup my books? The library location doesn't have my books there and iCloud.com doesn't have books that I can find. I'd like to backup my books to an external drive.
