I did the upgrade this week, and that's my advice for you: if you are not sure, don't! Unless you use your mac just to use email and have fun.

I am still waiting for the day an OS will be made for those use the PC to work. I did wait for months before migrating to Mojave, I usually do wait a lot later a new OS release. This time I just did a backup and did the upgrade to Catalina as soon as my system asked me to - why not? Of course the installation froze, why not... Hours looking an installation screen pretending to do something! There is a useless feature that tries to configure my mac and freezes all the time, I have to remind me to step over it, I think will put a sticky in my screen to remind me to! I could finish the installation, of course, I do this since my green iMac...

So now I have an unstable system that does not run a lot of my apps, some will never run again. I can't look at my bank account, the bank website does not accept Catalina. I will have to play a lot of my games in Windows! By the way, Windows might be a better OS today, if wasn't even more unstable. With so many features, they forgot to include some basic warnings before start the migration process so the user can take some precautions, not interrupting some important work.

Now it's too late, let's face it. I did look at the list of new things about Catalina and honestly didn't find much to justify a new OS besides the security improvements. But I am trying to work... now Finder opens with a black box in the left side that hides the list of icons, I have to put in the list mode, but sometimes the name column is in the same size of the window... what happened with the old and good list of files??? You know, I work 90% of the time in a Mac and still go faster in Windows when managing files! The top bar is still a mess of icons, the app menus go over the icons hiding some of them, my user name is still in the right but the commands are still in the left... There is a lot of basic usability design practices that is required from a developer that Apple does not correct in it's own OS!

Sorry for this small list of complains (I have a lot more, believe me). A Macintosh is an expansive product, more than never, and I am a very unhappy customer today. Would be better if Apple returns to old system of paying for a new system, it's a kind of relationship that works better for us that wish to work.

reinstall the OS. reset the smc, nvram. ask this (excellent) community for help.

your experience is NOT everyone's; both of my macs are running 10.15 well (a few issues on my macbook, but nothing urgent).

your bank doesn't work with catalina? odd. but try another browser.

ask for help when things go wrong, much better than just complaining.

Well, reinstalling the OS is exactly my point about a system not made for those will use the mac to work - days working to reinstall everything, downloading and installing...

I really don't use to complain, I prefer to consult this awesome community, fix it and move on, but this time I had this week moment, sorry again. I am experiencing all kind of glitches all the time, I am now listening to Music and the Equalizer will stop working every time change to new track, simple but annoying glitch - will work in silence or with poor sound...

I got no time to make a list of bugs to solve each one, I have my own bugs on my projects to solve already. At list there is no major glitches, just closing Unity or Photoshop an losing some time. I will wait a month or so for fixes in next updates, if things become to annoying, I will consider a downgrade to Mojave.

And I will reaffirm my advice, upgrading to Catalina is a bad idea for most of user right now. I will come back to my old practice and wait for some months.

Sorry to hear about your issues, gustavopl. I learned a long, long time ago that 1) the initial version of a new Mac OS is always "buggy", 2) it is best to wait until at least the .1 version (and even better, the .2 version) of that new Mac OS is released, 3) if the new OS has nothing earth shattering that you need, then it's best to stay with your current environment, and 4) one should not upgrade until all their third party software is compatible with the new OS (especially critical programs). Also, I always do a fresh, clean, "virgin" installation of the new OS, and then migrate/copy needed files, folders, settings, etc. from a SuperDuper! backup that I make just before the installation. That has always worked for me.

Even though I tested Catalina recently using an external SSD, and everything worked fine, I am still going to use Mojave (OS 10.14.6) until 1) 3 of my critical apps (SuperDuper!, Onyx, and TechTool Pro) have upgrades that are compatible with Catalina, and 2) the .2 version of Catalina is released.

sorry you've had a rough time, but again... your experience isn't everyone's. so pointless of you to warn 'most users' when you only have your own experience to report on.

My 2019 15in MBP freezes / restarts randomly when used in clamshell mode.
Already tried various fixes except wiping everything the whole hard drive and start fresh.

I bet Catalina works for 99% of the mac population but that doesn't mean people who are having problems with it should be dismissed.

Since I brought the audio equalizer issue, will post the discussion in Apple's support community:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250721894 (I recommend to read it through the end)

Is affecting a lot of users but Apple seems to be aware of the problem. Hope they fix it soon, meanwhile I let the equalizer minimized and just deactivate / activate every new song.
