Just wondering if there is a way to setup the stock messaging app and biteSMS so that the screen does not "light up" when receiving a new text message, just so that I get the sound/vibrate.

The reason I'm asking for both the stock messaging app and biteSMS is because I have biteSMS but my cousin doesn't.

I think I saw a tweak on the default repos that disabled the screen from turning on when you received notifications and texts, don't remember what it was called, I'll check my iPod when I get back home, that thing is loaded with all sorts of junk :p

In the notifications settings, turn off "Show on Lock Screen" for the app(s) in question

I see that for the stock messaging app but when I go to settings, notifications biteSMS isin't even on the list.

I also went to the biteSMS app and looked under settings but don't see anything that would allow me to set it so that the screen doesn't turn on when receiving a text.

For starters, make sure "Auto Show Quick Reply" is turned off in ButeSMS settings, quick reply, lock mode.

turned it off, just got a txt and my screen lit up. :(

Sorry dude. LockInfo is the only thing I know of that ever allowed me to do this. Receive notifications on the lockscreen but prevent the display from turning on. That was one of my favorite features of LockInfo on iOS 4 and early iOS5 until I stopped using LockInfo for good after getting used to the stock notification center.

LockInfo doesn't support iOS 6?

No it does support it. I just don't use it. Plus it's a completely different package than what it was during iOS4 and 5. The newest LockInfo may or may not have that feature. If no one chimes in here, there's a quickly growing LockInfo 5 (which is the version for ios6) thread on the first page here on MacRumors where someone can tell you for sure.

Edit: Here's a link to the thread...

wow /facepalm at myself, so I just figured out how to do it without lockinfo 5,
all I had to do is go to the notifications settings, turn off "Show on Lock Screen" under the stock messaging app (even though I'm using BiteSMS) and now when I receive texts the screen doesn't turn on, but I still get the sound :) I also have to have "Auto Show Quick Reply" turned off in biteSMS, for it to work.

Thanks for all your help guys :D

I turn off Sound and Wake Device. It stays on the lock screen, but it doesn't alert me in any way.

So...

is there a way to have messages show up on the lock screen but not turn your screen on? Like... I want to be able to see notifications lined up when I wake up my phone from sleep but I don't want each message to turn on the display. I just want it to make a sound or vibrate.

Haha the exactly how I have mine setup and its always worked correctly. I must have misread the thread because I thought you already tried that! I woulda mentioned it but I didn't because I thought you tried that. Hahaha sorry! I shoulda said something.

where is that?

Settings>Notifications>Messages>Wake Device

If you flip that off, it will not turn the screen on, but still be available when you wake the phone up manually

errr..I don't seem to have a wake device toggle? Is this in the settings app>notifications>... I don't have such a toggle...
