You guys need to stop worrying Apple has lowered prices of there products before and gave rebates, When apple lowered the price of Apeture they gave early adopters $200 E-coupons.

If you dont believe me look here http://www.apple.com/promo/aperture/

That's nice that Apple did that but in all seriousness if you paid cash for your iPhone wouldn't you want cash back?:)

I hear ya. I bought mine on iDay but still a little disappointed that Apple dropped it that much that quick. We knew it would drop at one point but that much that quick makes me wonder if they just wanted to screw the apple faithful over for the quick buck then make it cost effective for the regular joe.

$200 coupon would go well to a new Apple laptop, but I'd be worried that they would drop the price on that next month...

Supersteve, I just want to say thank you for making my day a little better. I couldnt get my mind off the 200 all day long. We'll see what happens tomorrow!

Here is Steve Jobs answer

Quick answer, tough luck. Longer answer, we knew there would be enough people that loved us and would pay any price we asked. Then, after we took them for all they were worth(like me), we will start charging the price we really wanted to get.

Ah, I guess that Apple is good with people reverse engineering their software and running it on less expensive, superior hardware because, you know, "That's what happens with technology."

Now, if that was only true, I'd be thinking about typing this on OS X running on my Dell.

If they gave everybody a $200 ecoupon, that would only cost Apple a fraction of the $200 since you are getting $200 retail value, not cost value. This would make all the early adopters happy again.

Considering anyone outside of 14 days is not technically entitled to anything, I'll take whatever they'll had out.:)

I doubt we're gonna get *anything*....

Q&A with Jobs: 'That's what happens in technology'....

Q: What do you say to customers who just bought a new iPhone for $599? Sorry?
A: That's technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well, that's what happens in technology.

Was the Aperture coupon due to customer demand?

I think we'll get a press release tomorrow that clearly says anyone outside a 14 day window is out of luck. Although I'd really like a $200 refund or gift card and think it is insane they lowered prices 2 months in, I think we'll mostly be out of luck. (Unless you were one of the lucky ones who did indeed receive credit although being out of the 14 day range)

Since I didn't post much today I just wanted to add my views.

I feel almost used by Apple - we, the early adopters, paid full retail and worked out all the bugs by reporting them to Apple. As soon as most bugs had been worked out and there were no major problems, the price drastically drops leaving the people who waited 7 hours in line and paid $600 out of luck. It is like Apple planned for this so they wouldn't have too many people buying the iPhone at launch, as to limit the potential problems till they had been solved.

I've spoken with a few reps from both Apple and AT&T and they all told me I'm out of luck. I may give a call to the AT&T Store's manager tomorrow but I think we'll have an official press release, anyhow, which will ensure no one gives out refunds past the 14 day cut off. (as I already said)

Oh well.

Edit: Just for the record, I understand it is a competitive market. If it was 6 months to a year from the release I would have not a single problem with it. 2 months? You have to be kidding me. What I think should happen, is people outside the 14 day window should be offered a $100 Apple Gift Card since they technically aren't entitled to anything.

And you know what else happens with technology Steve? At one point Apple had nearly 100% of the market for computers with a graphical interface. Sadly I am starting to see that same arrogance now that nearly destroyed them then. Besides this price drop, look at the Ipod touch. It might be nice, but why no hard drive? I know a number of people that would have bought one in a second, but now won't because even 16 gig isn't nearly enough. Of course, the touch would be slightly thicker with a hard drive, can't have that. Also, still no blue tooth? Apparently Steve doesn't think we need or want these things but Apple is losing a lot of sales they could easily get.

AT&T's Policy is 30 days

I bought my phone a little less than a month ago, and the girl told me I had 30 days to return it, and if it was open, there was a 10% restocking fee. I also read this again tonight on a prominent blog (http://blogs.business2.com/apple/). So this to me says worst case scenario, I get $140 back, but hopefully they know the routine and rather than have me return one and then rebuy, they will just give me the $200 difference. The only reason I bought mine at an AT&T store was because my wife was upgrading her phone also, but not to an iPhone, but maybe this will work out better for me. Will see tomorrow.

I keep seeing Apple only has a 14 day policy. That is hard to believe. The first people to buy were the hardcore Apple followers so I can't believe Apple wants to upset them.
