I'll start off by saying I'm not sure where this should go but this seemed like the best place.

I recently (read - Saturday) got a 2.2GHz MacBook Pro, really great and such. I've got Dosbox and installed Red Alert into it but when I try and launch it. Red Alert can't see the CD-ROM.

P.S. is it normal for it to make a bit of noise when installing in Dosbox, was either the fans or the cd drive.

yeah I mounted it, got everything to install perfectly. but it won't detect the CD. Tried running in no cd mode (copying a bunch of files to the game directory), game itself launches but when I try and play all I get is a black screen when it should be loaded.

I know this is an old thread but a solution is a solution and what with EA giving away Red Alert 1 free this weekend it might be alot of use to alot of people.

Anyway, to get Red Alert to see the CD you need to label the CD when you mount it, like such: "mount d /Volumes/CD1 -t cdrom -label CD1" Obiviously if you want to mount cd 2 just change cd 1 to 2... This then lets Red Alert see that a game disc is in the d: drive.

That fixes the that issue but i have a problem with the game having no ground textures just men on a black background. Anyone got a solution for that?

I'm not sure if this helps(I haven't tested it yet) but I stumbled across this when trying to figure out the settings:
