I've recently started using the mac calendar app's email alert system, which has been great as I have a mac mini running 24/7 as a server so the alerts all come through on time as expected.

However, when I turn on my Mac Pro, I get all of the notification emails through a second time, since the last time I turned it on. I'm guessing this is because the mac calendar app isn't smart enough to realise it's already been sent from a different icloud synched machine?

I can see that iOS calendar doesn't even have the feature for email alerts, but is there a way to stop the duplication without removing calendars from the second mac?

Thanks!

Email alerts have been on the macOS Calendar app for a while and I think you're right…the feature hasn't been updated to consider people that are running more than one Mac. The alert is set in the event and the event is synced to other devices along with those alerts.

Apple would probably dump the feature but then they'd get complaints from the one-Mac owners that still use it.

If there's an Apple-only workaround I'm unaware.

I use Google calendars and email notifications are a server-side feature, either per event or configurable as a default option…which is what Apple ought to do. I'm not sure about other third-party services.

For a single email notification sent for every event I suppose a Google user could subscribe to the iCloud calendar at the Google calendar and add an email notification as a default for the subscribed calendar. Non-Google users could set up an account with email forwarding.

Thanks both. I keep track of a lot of things by email notifications via calendar dates, so I would hope that they do not remove this feature.

I've tried turning off the notification on the Mac Pro, so will see tomorrow morning when the next alerts come through if that works.

Thanks

EDIT - I realised I could just make some more alerts. I've tested it 3 times now and it has worked perfectly. No duplicated emails! Thanks both!
