So title basically.

I can buy either a late 2011 MBP 15" i7 2.2 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD and a new battery and little to no wear and tear for 300 bucks, or a mid 2012 MBP i7 2.9 with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 90% battery and a close to new look and feel for 550 bucks.

I would like to know is realistically how long will either of these devices last me? Is Apple known for long software support? Hardwarewise both MacBooks will prolly get the job done, but I'm unsure about the OS.

Anyone that can shine a light on this topic? I'd hate to spend over 300 bucks on something that will be obsolete in a year, but then again maybe I shouldn't expect much from a 7/8 year old device, I don't know..

Would you choose neither and spend more on a different model?

Most definitely not the 2011 15” or 17”. The graphics cards have such a high failure rate (Radeongate). Avoid them like the plague.

The 2012 should be supported until around 2020-2021, as Apple EOL devices from 5-6 years after last sold rather than first manufactured. It’s also likely to support the next few operating systems.

I have a 2012 15" quad I7 2.7...very upgradeable and still very powerful and lots of ports.
I also have 2011 MBP 2.4 I5 as said above the 2012 is the way to go.
