Hi all,

I'm waiting for my 7,1 to arrive and I'm looking at RAM upgrades.
Am I right in thinking that the 8 core comes with 2933 but the system then clocks it down to 2666?
If that's the case, am I then safe to buy 2933 so that if in a few years time I decide to upgrade the processor I don't have to repurchase the ram?

Apple’s RAM upgrade guide for the Mac Pro confirms that the 8-core comes with 2933Mhz RAM, and that you should just buy 2933Mhz RAM when looking to add RAM to the system.

So yes, it will sort of “future-proof” the RAM in case you upgrade the CPU down the road to one that does use 2933Mhz without downclocking it.

Thanks.
I need to go looking for the Apple Ram upgrade guide then.
