Alright, here's my situation. I've been happily using my iPhone 3G for the past 18 months. Finally decided to JB this past weekend, after, of course, upgrading to 3.1.2. I recall being able to tether at some point in the past, then lost that with one of the upgrades that I dutifully applied, thinking I was being a loyal iPhone user.

Now I'd like to be able to downgrade to an earlier firmware version, if I can do that, in order to regain the ability to tether, either with the cable, or via BT.

Where can I find earlier firmware versions. Is it possible to downgrade? How do I go about running such a patch?

After running blackra1n, and installing several apps/patches from Cydia, I am very pleased with the result.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

are you JB right now then?

i was at 3.1 on my 3G....just did a redsn0w 0.8 downgrade to 3.0.1 with a 3.0 ipsw.

then installed the 6.0 CF

With a 3G you can upgrade and downgrade the firmware as much as you like and JB to any version.

Redsn0w or Pwnage Tool will work for you.

I don't get what all the hype about 3.1.x is all about. There's nothing interesting that's not already on 3.0.

i use some apps that dont work in 3.0 and work in 3.1. also, i like nondestructive video editing and copying of contact info fields. also, i like triple click homebutton binding and in-itunes icon arranging.

i also like to have the most recent firmware on my phone because i have OCD.

So if I have a 3gs I can't downgrade? If I can what is the trick? I've run jailbroken phones in the past without issues. With this phone and 3.1.2 I'm having problems with apps bombing and not remembering my password. facebook being one of them.

Apple quit signing the 3.0 and 3.0.1 IPSW's for the 3GS, so if you don't have your SHSH on file with Cydia, the lowest you can go is 3.1

If the bugs don't bother you (you are not affected), you can stay on 3.0. In fact, you could probably stay there forever. I am sure the phone will continue to make calls.

I most definitely agree with the OCD part, lol, which is why I have 3.1.2. But what is triple click home button binding? What can you do with your 3 click? And in tunes icon arranging?
