Downgrade 9.3 to 9.2

Hey guy,

Here is my story. I found out an Ipad 2 wifi in the dump couple month ago. The lcd screen had been broken. but Itunes recognised the devise. I decided to buy a new lcd screen. To do this operation I unfortunatly cut the commands cable. Even without the commands (button ON-OFF and the sounds), I was able to start the ipad with Itunes. Everything was working find, the other ownership didn't lock the screen and I managed to take over the Ipad.
On the 23th after the Key notes of Apple, I decided to upgrade my Ipad with the version 9.3. At the end of the installation, Ios ask me my Apple Id which is the Apple ID of the former owner ship. If I used Itunes same screen.
So I was wondering if there is way to use the recovery mode without the hard reset because I don't have any power button ? Besides do you think the recovery mode could restore my older version of IOS ?

Since you have reached that screen, known as "Activation Lock", it will not allow you to do anything with the iPad - whether thats restore, activate or downgrade.

Before you can use the iPad with iTunes or activate it for use, you will need to enter the original owners Apple ID and password.

Also, Apple doesn't make it easy to downgrade - if at all. Older versions stopped being signed/accepted for activation usually within a few days of a new versions release.

if you need to go back...

you need to download the IPSW for 9.2 for your iPad 2 (https://ipsw.me)

then you need to put your iPad in DFU mode..

using iTunes.. shift click on restore (or command on mac i think) and select the IPSW you just Dled


let it do its thing and restore...

there you go.. as long as apple is signing 9.2.1 you'll be able to go back (it won't be for long)

He's at the activation screen, I'm sure iTunes won't let him do anything, since its all part of Find my iPad?

Even if you put the iPad in DFU mode, if the iCloud activation lock is enabled, and if you do not know it, you will still be unable to use it.

You can't do anything without DFU/Recovery mode, it's stuck at activation lock.

I tried the restorartion using Itunes and the version 9.2 and I need to by pass the ICloud identification screen. As @Sirious said I m stuck on this screen.

Looks like that's it for the iPad then. The only chance now is if the update Apple releases will remove the lock.

Jailbreaks aren't related to activation lock. You won't be able to use this iPad.

You cannot get around activation lock, it's an anti-theft feature and essentially bricks the device (leaves it unusable) unless you sign in or have proof-of-purchase and can contact Apple. You can't jailbreak the iPad.

Apple has a page on this problem but it doesn't look like it'll help since the account it's locked to isn't yours: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206203

OP said they found it at a dump, and that it's locked with the orignal owner's account.

I'm not thief. I just recycled an Ipad found in a dump. It's my fault if people don't care to recycle electronic product. To avoid that Apple should charge 10 euros each time you give your old product back... But of course it's not the plan of this company even if they show off about their environment concern in the key note.

All that aside, there's not much you can do about Activation Lock.

...or expect to. It's pretty hard to complain about not being able to activate a "found" device.

for the original registrar's AppleID instead of that of the current user.

Perhaps it might be related to that, but if it was actually Activation Locked by the owner who got rid of it, then it would still be unrelated to that.

I don't think this update would have fixed it as OP has said he is not the original owner.

I don't think you can downgrade or remove the activation lock. You're out of luck.

Apple is technically signing 9.2.1 right now for the iPad 2 but you would still run into the activation lock which you can't remove.
