Hi,

I bought an Apple TV2,and I just connected it today. Now, it has the latest software update (because i silly updated it). Now i want to downgrade it, because i want to install XBMC on it.

I've been trying and reading how to do this but nothing works. I don't have the SHSH files (if that would be necessary) and now I'm stuck with error 1604 when I want to restore in iTunes.

Is it possible to downgrade it to 4.2.1 in the first place? And if yes, how?

Thanks in advance,

You cannot downgrade it without the SHSH files.

Is that completely, 100% true? I *have* saved my SHSH blobs for my ATV2 (and I advocate it for anyone), but I could have sworn when I performed my earlier JB that I had successfully performed a downgrade before. Maybe it did it before Apple stopped digitally signing earlier updates, or something?

It is very true. If you have saved them, you can re-use them. But if Apple isn't signing the blobs for the target firmware anymore, there is no way to go back.

I have read about changing your "hosts" file, so that it bypasses the Apple control. Is that something that could help?

If not, XBMC on the latest firmware, possible or not?

That only works if you have your SHSH blobs saved. If they are not saved, there is no way of downgrading. XBMC works on the latest firmware.

Yeah I think the OP is stuck waiting for the JB for the latest firmware to come out....

In the meantime for the love of all that is holy DON'T UPDATE YOUR APPLETV!!!!
