I finally managed to get hold of a 2nd generation apple tv, however the seller has just informed me he updated it to the latest software prior to posting it today.

Having googled it quickly, it seems I can't downgrade it to the previous software version (without SHSH blobs saved) to enable me to jailbreak it.

Is this true, or can someone make my day and tell me there is a way to downgrade it or I can still jailbreak it??!

According to the firecore forums, apple is still signing 5.0.2 which allows for an untethered jailbreak, if I were you I would hurry up and downgrade.

It's arriving Monday so I'll download the software now and restore as soon as i can! Thanks

New here..

I've had a jailbreak on my ATV2 for sometime now running firecore with XMBC and all. Well I had my ATV2 unplugged last night during a storm and today it's restored itself back to a state with nothing jailbroken being done to it.

The version is still 5.0.2 with no available update. What the heck happened? Would not having power access lose the data in memory some how?

I read a post for this same issue on a random site and it's fixed now!

All you had to do is hold down the Menu and Play button till it starts flashing rapidly. It will restart your ATV and when it came back everything was like it was before.

Phew!! So glad I don't have to go through all that again.
