I currently own a 2.93 17" MPB unibody and well it was a gift from an ex. When it first came out.. Well over time I just have no use for it, besides my music an DJing.. I've lately been obsessing and considering selling it to get money to buy an iPad and a standard 13" mbp... Am I stupid to do this? What are your thoughts? Would it be worth it or just plain stupid... I'd keep my 17" but I don't have money to just but an ipad. That's why I'd sell my 17"..... Comments.. Thouhts??

It would drive me crazy to downgrade to a slower computer to the one that I'm used to. But if you don't feel the same way I don't think that it is necessarily a bad idea.

If you say you have no use for it, it sounds like you've answered your own questions.

But do you think it would be that much of a speed downgrade if I installed 8gb ram onto a new 2.4 13" MacBook Pro With the GeForce 320M over a older 2.93 17"? Screen size doesn't matter to me anymore... But from reviews I've heard the recent upgrades to the new MBP are faster (not the i5 or i7)

I'd say get the base 13" MBP, put 8GB of RAM in, and install an SSD; then there will be no comparison in terms of speed.

What are you doing with the computer? If you're just doing basic web browsing and running your Dj, software, the 13 should be fine.

I think the perfect combination is a Mac mini or iMac with an iPad - I think a laptop is on the way out for most people

I went from 15 inch MBook Pro unibody to 13 inch Macbook and 32 GB iPad... And im happy!

Went from a 17" laptop to a 13" Macbook back in 2007. The resolution, and screen size really ruined it from me. I eventually switched back to my 17" laptop, I couldn't deal with such a small screen.

Having owned all 3 and now on a 13" 2.4ghz, 4GB, nvidia 320m mbp (got it for $999 at microcenter, what a deal!!), I'd say go for it. The iPad is great to carry around almost everywhere while you can keep your 13" mbp docked to an external monitor on a desk to do the file serving. You can even use a mac mini to serve videos to the iPad if you want and save u even more money.

I asked a question like this a while ago - 15 inch or 13 inch and ipad.

Well after some thought and discussion with the forum members here.. I just bought an ipad as a companion to my 15" uMBP. I really wanted a smaller foot print, and to save money but in the end...I would dearly miss the larger screen. The iPad has been a great companion so far though.

I disagree. I have iPhone. iPad and 13 inch pro. Thought about returning iPad cos i don't really need it but i love it. So decided to get a bigger laptop now. Maybe a 15. The 13 is too similar to the iPad.

Just my two pennies worth
