Is there any way to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1? I tried putting my iphone in recovery mode, and then holding down the "shift" key when hitting restore, but I get no option to pick firmware 2.1. Any suggestions?

I would like to go back to 2.1, since I had 3g coverage before I updated to 2.2, now all I have is edge. :(

Go to the new link i posted. Select the 3G iphone 2.1 file.
Put your phone in DFU mode, select shift+restore and select the 2.1 file

when I hold down shift and press restore it doesn't give me an option to pick what file I want to restore from. It automatically starts restoring from 2.2.

I'm using the newest version of iTunes. 8.0.2. Is this something that they removed in this version of iTunes?

Is this a common problem? I updated my mother in-laws 3g iPhone the other day. I'd hate to think I crippled her phone.

grrr...selected the 2.1 firmware, and it looked like everything was going good, and then i get the error message saying that an unknown error occurred and the restore cannot be completed (error 1013). I'm guessing this is due to the baseband change from 2.1 to 2.2? any way to make the downgrade work for me?

I really hate that I lost my 3g signal because of the update.
