you cant downgrade at best you would have to do a clean install of lion, and you wont be able to download lion anywhere legit anymore

Things like Mail and iPhoto and others do not happily adjust to a downgrade.

But you could easily restore everything from the backup you made before you upgraded, right?

Yes he can, I believe if he starts internet recovery by pressing cmd + r while it boots he can still download Lion. At least my MBPr let me when I went back to Lion.

I was able to downgrade back to Lion using the Internet Recovery. I own the current Air, and when I first installed ML I used a USB key after the download, instead of upgrading straight from the Mac App Store.

I think the best bet would be to visit a local Apple Store and ask them for help.
Regarding fixing it with updates, Apple just seeded the beta version of 10.8.1 recently. So that might fix it, but it would take a while to release it.

ML was also degrading the battery in my Air, so hopefully you can downgrade to Lion as soon as possible.

Try reformatting the whole drive. That includes the recovery partition and then reboot into Internet recovery. It may let you do it then.

Sounds about right to me, that is the time I got on my 2011 MBP when I had Lion on it. Flash really takes a toll on the battery.

Wait a second...reformat the entire drive, including the recovery partition...then boot into the recovery partition? How does that work?

Flash is a real battery killer, I can watch the battery indicator go down whilst on websites with flash or playing a flash game. This behaviour was the same with Lion and Mountain Lion.

During normal use, ie. Word, Excel, iPhoto the battery life is a million times better.

Am I right in saying that, with both the recovery and main HDD partitions deleted the newer macs will then access the internet for the full recovery process. including downloading the required recovery tools from scratch, and that older macs require the recovery partition since the EFI does not incorporate internet recovery.

You don't boot into a recovery partition. If the hdd is blank the mac will download its os from the mothership (apple)

But did you erase the entire drive? The recovery partition is locked so you won't be able to do it from disk utility... What you need to do is delete the recovery partition from terminal... Here's a little guide I pulled up http://osxdaily.com/2011/06/30/deleting-the-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-recovery-hd-partition/

If you did that, and then booted w/ Command-R it would boot from the internet recovery and d/l the version of OS X that it shipped with...

Anyways, your battery life is pretty much par for course so I'd just live w/ it...

and from where i can download the lion installer

Well, I have lion installer, downloaded from AppStore. The only problem is that its size is 3,5 Gb, and I don't have any space on web of more than 2,5 Gb.
If you do - I could upload it for you.

Lion partition on Mountain Lion Possible?

Hi There,

I buying a new MBP 15" soon. It will obviously come with Mountain Lion installed. Is it possible to partition the HD and install Lion on the partition?

I know you can't downgrade from ML if that OS came with the Mac, but can I at least have Lion on a separate partition?

Thoughts would help.

i tried everything i read but no success

even the internet recovery installed ML for me

now after 10.8.1 update im actually happy with the results
(not as good as lion but still close)

the only thing i haven't tried it to format the whole hdd and use internet recovery to install the os which the mac came with when u bought it
(i thinks this will work)
