Downgrade from Vista to Xp?!

I decided to install vista on my PC(i would not install it on my iMac). So I entered the install disk into the drive to do the installer for XP, but the install button is not clickable! It is all grey and I can't click it! I know this is a Mac forum but if someone could help me it would be much appreciated.

Please be more specific/clear so that we can try to provide you some help.

Basically "format c:" and try again. Meaning you got to boot up with XP from the CD drive and format the drive and then you can downgrade to it. You will lose everything so make sure you copy your important files off the drive first.

Alright, I installed Vista Beta 2 on my computer. Come to find out, my brother and father now hate me for it. So now I am on my quest to put XP back on it. I then inserted the XP install disk into my DVD tray, load it up, then when it loads, you cannot click on the Install XP button. I will take a screenshot if it will help.

Using the XP disc edit the partiiton table by deleting the partitions on the machine, create a new partition, format it and hey presto sorted...

And if that doesn't work, try using Killdisk to wipe the disk.

It is a free download from Killdisk.com.

You will either create a boot floppy or CD, then execute Killdisk from there which will wipe your disk.

BTW, I hope that you had all your data already backed up before you attempted to installed Vista.

I am trying that right now. I have everything backed up that I need(just my iTunes library.)

Windows Vista is really sneaky at not letting you uninstall it. My friend installed it on his computer (I'm not going anywhere NEAR Vista thankyou very much!) and he couldn't even format the disk...

I created a separate partition on my puter and installed Vista. I much prefer XP Pro over Vista so I uninstalled the partition. I still had the vista boot loader screen after it was uninstalled and I had to change my boot.ini file to get XP to load correctly again. Boo to Vista!

Ohhh I'm so curious about vista, in a way. I really want to use it but not so much that I want to go through the process of installing it on my iMac... It's not that I couldn't do it, just I don't want to do it THAT bad, that i'll render XP useless...

I think my reaction will be pretty similar to XP when I finally use it.

I wasn't blown away, but I was quietly impressed with the swish graphics, for about 10 minutes. Then I went back to using Windows 2000 because it was simpler.

Then I started using a Mac instead.

Now I'm back on XP, and when I start using Vista I think I'll end up going back to XP for a bit - 'cos it's simpler... I can see it coming.

For now I'm gonna go look at YouTube for some videos of vista to satify my mild curiousity....

I did the same thing. I used 2000 for a long time after XP came out. I ran the XP beta 2 for a long time but then reverted back. HOWEVER, the beta of XP was far far more stable and easy to use than the beta of Vista. Now I run XP with the classic theme when I run windows. It suites me well but I prefer using OSX when I can.

Guys, I could not get it to work. Tried boting off disk, won't work. I don't know what to do now. I think I might just go buy a new hard drive, install it, put xp on it and be happy with it. If anyone can help me please private message me.

Did you use Killdisk to completely erase the hard drive?
