will the latest release of redsnow allow me to downgrade my jailbroken, unlocked 8gb 3G? i am running iOS 4.2.1 with BB 6.15.00. i was reading here and other forums something about soft shsh blobs i think. i want to go down to iOS 3.1.3.
if i can, do i have to downgrade the BB also? should i downgrade the BB?
my iphone runs so slow now i have moments where i want to just get rid of it. not interested in oodles of apps, some would be nice but i can do without to tell the truth. all i really need is a smooth running device. Also 4.2.1 was the FW on the phone when i got it as a gift.
i am not completely inept, i just need to know if i can or cant. the ability or lack thereof will set me free!

thank you in advance to any and all who take the time to read this!!

i would recommend you downgrading the baseband as it's known for problems

according to dhlizard, he recommends using the 0.9.14b2 release to downgrade the baseband as opposed to the latest version

iClarified.com has tutorials - be sure and use the older, recommended version of Redsn0w to do the removal - it may take a few tries for the downgrade to work

I recommend you restore to 4.1 to do the removal, then once on 5.13.xx, use Redsn0w to make a No_BB IPSW and go back to 5.1.1

for the 3GS, the ability to downgrade is not dependent on the software but what shsh blobs do you have. open cydia and click tss center, what shsh blobs for which version does it show for you? those shsh blobs tell you what versions you are able to restore/downgrade/upgrade to and if you don't have them, there are no workarounds

as of right now, iOS 4.1 is being signed by apple for the 3GS so if you want 4.1, all you need to do is download the ipsw and shift + click restore on itunes, select that firmware and you're good to go http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7938.20100908.F3rCk/iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw

if you rely on a software unlock (ultrasn0w), you will need the make the custom firmware into a no baseband upgrade once you have downgraded the baseband. you have to be in pwned dfu mode to restore custom firmwares

after typing all this, i reread your post and saw that all you wanted to know was whether you could downgrade to iOS 3.1.3 or not. I bolded the answer pertaining to that

I'd love to downgrade my ipod touch 2ng gen to iOS 3.1.2 where it was still running quite smoothly but unfortunately, no shsh blobs don't allow me to downgrade it :(

thank you for your replies and input. dhlizard, an extra proper thank you. i do indeed have 3g. i am going to attempt this in a few hours.
