Yeah, so the wind has been taken out of my sails with all of this constant complaining of the blooming and shadows, so I’m wondering if I should even bother opening the 12.9” I’m getting Tuesday or if I should return it for an 11” instead? Or even try to snag a 2020 model? I was so hyped up for the iPad Pro this year and now I am just disheartened to the point where I don’t know if I’ll be able to look past the issues. What should I do? Is it being blown out of proportion or am I right to worry?

Well I assume you have a return policy so if it’s coming then check it out and decide for yourself. If you don’t like it, return it and go with the 11

I think that before deciding anything, you should try the 12.9 for your self (since it's already on the way for you). Try watching HDR movies and reading on it and see if the blooming is an issue for you.

I think you'll be more pleased with the 11" if it suits your needs.

You don’t even know if is an issue so how can you make a decision? Never buy things for yourself based on the opinions of others.

So open it up and try it, if you find it not up to your standards you just return it. That said I don’t think the 11” is a downgrade since it excels on things the 12.9” doesn’t and vice versa.

Try it and see. I’ve got mine and it is a wonderful machine. The screen is breathtaking. Perhaps I just got lucky with my unit but I do feel the issues being discussed are being overblown And certainly they are not visible on my screen. I think it is possible you be be blown away by the display, so just check it out before deciding.

Why allow other people's opinion to dictate what you do? That kind of thinking isn't logical. The logical thing to do is keep your order and give the 12.9" the 14 day test run to see if you like it and it fits your needs. If you don't like it, return it for the 11."

Never allow strangers to dictate what you do with your own life and money.

I think it is an issue, but the question is it something you'd even notice in real life or do you have to pixel peep to see it? Does it visibly annoy you when using it? Since it's on the way to the OP, they should try it and and see - each person will likely have a different answer. I suspect with these issues that there are a relatively small number of people who would even notice it.

I just sold my 11 inch iPad Pro after comparing the display with my new 12.9 inch iPad Pro. The internet is blowing things way out of proportion as usual. The new display is much better than the old one in 99 % of content and the 1 % of problems you really have to look for. I have an OLED TV and am very picky about my displays. However, I do not use my iPad in a pitch black room like my TV. If you plan on reading white text on a black background, you could still set the background to grey and have the same uniformity as the 11 inch…

Just try it out yourself before returning it.

You know what? You make some very valid points. I’ve wanted this thing ever since I first heard about it last year, and I’m not going to let others ruin it for me. It’s coming Tuesday and I seriously doubt I am going to have the first world problems others are having with it. I’ll form my own opinion on the 12.9” and go from there. That’s way more logical. Kudos to you, my man, and everyone who chimed in. :D

So I went from a 2018 11 Pro to a 2021 12.9 Pro. 3 days in and getting used to it. A guy on another thread compared it to holding a cookie sheet. Aside from being freaking hilarious, imo he’s not half wrong. I’ve got decent sized hands, like size 10 ski glove, gym rat so it’s not a strength thing, but gotta say holding one edge/side in landscape say reading on kindle, the 12.9 is definitely more unwieldy than the 11, more propping than free handing. Possibly enough for me to consider returning it for a 2021 11. I’ll give it a few more days.

Speakers are definitely better than the 2018 and I’m working on some IP using mindmapping apps (Mindly/Mindnode) so the bigger screen real estate is appreciated.

I’ve been a die-hard 12.9 user for several years, but today I suddenly got an urge to give the 11 a try… opted for the 2020 model though, as it’s plenty fast for what I do. Though I’m generally fine holding the 12.9 as a tablet, there are some scenarios where the weight does start to tire my wrists, and I also find it difficult to thumb-type when held vertically (why did Apple do away with that brilliant split keyboard?).

I’ve been working on the 11 all day, occasionally switching back to the 12.9, but at this point it’s very likely the larger one is going to get sold.

Edit: decided to exchange for the M1 (11") after all.
