So I updated to iOS 9 yesterday but now I can't sync with my Mac unless I update iTunes to 12 from 11. I don't want to do that cause I hate the UI of iTunes 12. Is there any way of getting back to iOS 8.4 or am I stuck having to update iTunes and use the crappy UI?? My iPhone was backed-up prior to upgrading but I don't seem to have an iOS 8.4 restore file but I do have an iOS 9 restore file even though I can't use it with iTunes 11.

Not 8.4, but 8.4.1 seems to still be possible (for the moment at least).

Yeah but do I need iTunes 12 to do so?? When I connect my iPhone to my Mac it says I need iTunes 12.2.2 to be able to sync.
If you put your phone into DFU mode it might work with iTunes 11 (I'm not certain of that, but you'd more or less need to do something along those lines to downgrade anyway).

Are you holding "Option" while clicking "Restore iPhone" and selecting the 8.4.1 IPSW? (You have to download it)

I've downgraded my iPhone 6 with no problem on iOS 8.4.1 with the latest version of iTunes.

Just an offshoot on this, if you have an iOS 9 backup and attempt to restore from it will iTunes deny the process all together or perform an update automatically/something else?

I would have had to update to iTunes 12.2.2 to be able to sync my iPhone to my Mac with iOS 9.

Gotcha, anyways your thread inspired me to downgrade as well. A few of my apps haven't been updated yet and it's been really degrading my experience on iOS 9. Already got the iPhone done with (restored from backup), now on to the iPad.

Well I don't mind upgrading to iOS 9. But I don't want to upgrade to iTunes 12 which I would have to do if I want to sync my iPhone with my Mac. I prefer iTunes 11 over 12. I'm also still on Mavericks cause I don't like the UI of Yosemite and some of the weird changes they made.
