Tried both 13” and 11” m4 iPad pros, returned both & ended going to same iPad I owned previously (bought used on offer up) which was an m1 11”. The OLED screens simply hurt my eyes and ruin the experience despite them having much better colors.

I can finally enjoy using an iPad again - the LCD has no negative effect on my eyes.

for those sensitive, it’s worth downgrading.

I agree about OLED screens hurting eyes. I’ve been using an iPhone with OLED with no issues, but the larger screen of the iPad Pro makes a difference.

Pure humbug.
I’m not sure it impacts your eyesight indeed, but I’m believing those people that they are experiencing something similar to getting new glasses and for the first time with varifocus glasses. I’ve understood some people never get used to it and keep getting dizzy/ headache/ motion sickness feelings.
It might be a similar result with the PWM in the M4 display. I’ve noticed at the start as well, but it went away after a few days. Apparently I adopted.

So to call it “pure humbug” is a bit strong imho.

I believe the poster was responding to the “too many defects” part of the comment…

I find this somewhat worrying. There are rumors about OLED MacBooks and I think I remember reading that over time and as manufacturing cost goes down, the plan is to get OLED screens into all devices.

Are people whose eyes have issues with OLED screens supposed to just not use Apple devices anymore at that point?
It'd be interesting to see how widespread this sensitivity is in general, though.

I was responding to the "Too many defects with the new model" statement.

Your eyesight is more important than a subpar new iPad model. Good on you for doing this. Too many defects with the new model.
What an untrue statement. There is nothing subpar about it the M4 Pro’s. No defects either.

I have owned all the 12.9 previous Pro’s and the M4 is way better than any of them. There is no comparison. No way could I go backwards now, as too big of a decrease going to an older Pro over the M4. I have tested both the glossy oled screen and nano and liked them both. Kept the nano, but would be fine with either.

Gave the glossy oled to my 81 old dad, who was using a 4th generation iPad Pro 12.9 and he loves the glossy oled M4 13 Pro. He said reading text on it is so much crisper and much brighter/better colors.

OP - do OLED TV’s do the same to your eyes?

So you must struggle so watch any OLED TV or use any OLED monitor too then without your eyes hurting if bigger screens make a difference…

I have never owned an oled tv, in the store I have no discomfort when viewing.

I DO notice discomfort on virtually every oled pc laptop I have tested in store, non starter

I am scared about what I’ll do once Apple moves the MBP to oled

Interesting. I’ve been hearing about OLED displays for it seems like about a decade but still haven’t seen one yet. I’d have thought they’d have changed or fixed the issue & it’d be pretty mature by now.

You are wasting your time responding to his posts. His sole MO is to post everything he can contrary to the new iPad Pro and promote his Samsung use. Best to ignore him.

At this point, he is just a full-on anti-iPad "Samsung enthusiast" (just see his device list) posting here simply to trash Apple and raise the ire of other members. Best to add to ignore list as he has nothing useful to add to any discussion here.

Samsung make most of Apple’s OLED displays… so your claim isn’t right, because by complaining about the screen he’s actually trashing Samsung.

Maybe he’s an Apple fan after all?

Funny about the displays. I actually bought a Samsung Tab S9 Ultra to try out and returned it because of the display - it was way too reflective, a showstopper for me.

Every one need to try the devices first and then Decide. I have seen folks who do ok on iPhone but have issues with galaxy phones and other way. I have no issues with OLED of any size, if I move to OLED iPad Pro, I will most likely never go back to LCD iPad Pro.

There’s nothing subpar about the M4 Pro? If you don’t think that the speakers are subpar then I don’t know what to tell you. Huge downgrade from the 2018 Pro.

Maybe you’re ok with OLED TVs because you sit further back from it? So maybe distance from the screen is a big factor 🤷‍♂️

I wonder what % of the population suffers from this issue with OLED? I would bet it’s at least 5-10%+, and I would bet, people are living with eye strain and don’t know it, they have grown use to the discomfort

Haven’t noticed, coming from a m2 13”…
but then again, I hardly ever listen to music and when I do, I use my app2 or apm.
so as usual ymmv.
and let’s face it, it’s hardly audiophile proof equipment.

improvements, there are a lot: much faster processor, more memory, huge improvement of the display, much brighter, nice new features on the pencil, bit better keyboard, it’s a bit thinner and still has a larger battery (11”) so my battery life improved greatly. Not too shabby eh?

Really could care less about the speakers, so if that is all you are complaining about, as that is funny. And to me the speakers do sounds very good still. That is just laughable that you would buy an iPad for the speakers, which are very good to begin with! 🤣
