I have been generally happy with the MBA up until the recent present.

My MBA is 7 months old and I upgraded to 10.5.5 about two weeks ago and then upgraded to VMware Fusion 2.0.

I then experienced poor performance (spinning beach balls) in OSX and generally slow XP under VMware. Then I had a kernel panic and two freeze ups that required holding the power button to shut it down. NOT GOOD!

Prior to the recent upgrades, I never experienced these problems.

So, I used SuperDuper to copy my 10.5.4 archive (which has VMware 1.5) back to my internal drive. All is good again.

I don't know if the problems are a result of 10.5.5 or VMware 2.0 and don't care at the moment. The MBA is stable again and that's what I need daily.

Beachballs, freeze ups and panics really makes you appreciate stability.

The culprit is VMWare fusion 2. I had the same problems and after downgrading vmware, everything worked fine. Not sure what the problem was, but I suspect the bad performance was caused by an incomplete installation of vmware tools.

You can upgrade to 10.5.5 without worrying about performance issues keeping vmware at the current version. If you ever used coolbook, re-activate it after 10.5.5 upgrade.
