hey i have a touch, but i'm trying to decide if i should sell it and get an iPhone. i have a few questions though.

1. first of all, can i jailbreak it without activating it?

2. if not, can i downgrade it without activating it?

3. once i downgrade it (if possible) jailbrekme.com will activate it without a service plan, correct?

4. and last, if i can get it activated, and jailbroken, can i get a pay as you go plan later?

thanks. i really appreciate a reply to any of these questions, because i would really like to upgrade to an iphone for the added capabilities. thanks again.

No to all. Unless you manually updated to 1.1.2, you can't downgrade. So if you buy a new iPhone which has (and most likely will) have the 1.1.2 firmware, your screwed. Just wait.

really? so when you plug you iphone in for the first time, what happens? there's no restore button? does anyone else know a way around this? even if i use the recovery mode? wait, can you do a recovery mode with unactivated iphone? really im sorry for all these questions.

Im not sure what he was talking about, but you can downgrade to 1.1.1 and factory "hacktivate" your iPhone from any firmware thus far except 1.1.3. I have posted many guides here and on my site.

It is true that at this point it is not easy to unlock the iphone running 1.1.2, but it may be done with a some effort. As for the "pay as you go" stuff, I'm not the one to ask...

so that means i can get a brand new unactivated 1.1.2 iphone, downgrade it to 1.1.1 (with the restore and recovery mode) and do that emergency call contacts thing to get to jailbreakme.com and "hacktivate" it?

yessir you can...

okay, so after findaing out that hacktivating it bricks the phone part, i have a new question. can i go through all that stuff up to hactivation, oktoprep it, upgrade to 1.1.2, and be able to use the phone part. or to better ask that question, is it possible to hacktivate a 1.1.2? and use the phone later?
