Hello

I am upgrading my phone to iOS 15. However if I don't like it how do I go back to the version of iOS which was installed on my phone?

I must admit that I do need to do some research on this topic of downgrading, I have seen members here refer to apple "not signing iOS xx). I gather from this that the window for downgrading is not open indefinitely.

The current version I have on my phone is iOS 10.

Thank you

😊

Well, the one thing I can assure you is that if you upgrade to iOS 15, you will not be going back to iOS 10 if you don’t like it!

Apple has announced that it will support iOS 14 for some time with security updates. It is not clear if that means only for people who stay there or if they will allow people to downgrade to iOS 14 from iOS 15. Because you are correct: Apple usually stops digitally signing iOS versions shortly after the next version is released. It’s usually a week to 2 weeks after release (I think its a little longer after a major update, like iOS 15 and its shorter after an update to fix a major security flaw).

No one here on the forums is certain whether the announced continued security support for iOS 14 means Apple will keep signing it and allowing people to downgrade.

My guess is “no”.

Well after the "slowing down" scandal I stayed put on ios 10. I am moving because towards the end of 2019 none of the banking apps work on ios10. The popular apps work as usual. However banking, investment apps don't work even though they state that they support ios 9/10 on their app page.

Plus some websites don't load properly on safari. Which is strange because duckduckgo seems to be working fine.

I do not upgrade every year. These phones are expensive. So I want to use it until it stops working. Problem is, well maybe it is a good thing aswell, I still have a iphone 4 and 5 which work perfectly fine. I use the iphone 4 as a music player for the car and the 5 for radio etc.

Hence why I am asking alot of people how their experience is with using a new os on a older device. Obviously it will never be just as fast as a new device. I can sacrifice snappy 0.1 millisecond loading app time for 1 or 3 second app loading time. As long as it is stable.

Stability is main concern.

Thanks

My guess is no. I believe that if I jump ship to ios 15 then I can't go back to iOS 14.8 let alone 10.

Maybe I am wrong.

I’d upgrade to 14.8 not 15. Since stability is all you care about no reason to install a .0 release

If stability (& security) are main concern, I would suggest to upgrade to iOS 14.8. I suspect your iPhone is quite old, so iOS 15 may slow down a bit more than iOS 14 (as well as slightly shorter battery life in iOS 15).
Since upgrade from 10 to 14 is big jump, would better to start from fresh install 14.8.

Yes. That is what I am looking to do. Not sure how to do this as iOS 15 is all I can install from apple.
