I installed iOS 9 to do some testing for my employer. I set up two step verification during my initial setup of iOS 9. After testing, I reverted to my 8.4 backup to find that I could not log into my icloud account without the verification code, which no longer sends to my phone because it is not iOS 9.

I have tried:

  • Reverting to my iOS 9 backup ( It wants find my iphone to be turned off, which I dont have access to because I cannot log in to icloud to access settings).
  • Downloading and installing an ios 9 ipsw, Fails.
  • Trying iForgot to remove or recover, (The verification code/call never comes)
Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!

Here's Apple's support doc on it...not sure if it'd be of any use to you:

You should be able to create a new "trusted" device if you have your recovery key.

At www.appleid.com, after you type in your correct ID and password, choose, "Unable to receive messages on any of your devices?"

Then enter your recovery key.

If successful you will get,

“Update your trusted devices now.
Without a trusted device, you will not be able to access your account if you forget your password or lose your Recovery Key.

You should verify at least one new device or SMS-capable phone number, then remove any devices you no longer have access to.”

Choose “Add another phone number…” and type in a phone number that can receive an SMS message. That is your new "trusted" device.
