I expect to see this service before too long. D/L a movie to your iPod and then play it back through your TV, through bluetooth or bluetooth 2 enabled iPod. Yes I know iPods don't have bluetooth... yet.

Even with h.264 the filesize for decent quality video will take up a lot of bandwidth. And it would probably take 4 or more hours to download I would imagine.

I don't know if you mean via bluetooth or broadband, but at least with the latter that estimate is probably too long. Bluetooth is most certainly not suited for any sort of video transfer, I think for downloading people will be patient with it though.

Personally, I love the concept of an "iTunes Movie Store" type of thing, but the only way I would personally use it is if Apple implemented some really good way to watch the movies on both my TV (wireless streaming) and a portable video device (which could hold more than one movie, have a long enough battery life to watch for at least 4 hours, and have more than a 1'' screen).

i would expect Apple to work with Sony PSP UMD Format and download through iTunes

depending on what they have on offer
44min show - around 250 mb
90 min under 500mb

movies - $12.99 (uk £9.99)
TV - $5.99 ( uk £4.99)
Music Videos - $0.99c ( uk 79p)

EDIT : these are mpeg-4 BTW

i'm talking broadband, and i'm talking probably 2GB of video

I download about 25 megabytes per minute from Apple's site, at that rate 2gb would take less than an hour and a half. (I realize that not all broadband users, especially those with DSL, wouldnt get these speeds.)

Now that h.264 is out, just saying mpeg-4 doesnt mean much. The files you are talking about are not h.264... This made me realize something. I think for Apple to have a successful movie store using h.264, you'd need to get 2 separate files when buying a movie. Portable video devices don't have the necessary processing power for HD h.264 playback.

What kind of screen do you expect this portable device to have? It doesn't need to be HD, it just needs to be big enough for the screen on the portable device.
Edit: Nevermind. I just reread your post. They could provide two files, or if you wanted to use it on a portable device, provide a program to shrink the file.
